Great Tent. Dry and stable. This tent has served me well for the past dozen or so years and used it 4-5 times per year. There are better tents today, but for the money and durability it cant be beat. Roomy enough for 2, good vestibules. Dry in the rain, and stable in the wind. Mostly used for canoe tripping in Northern Ont.
Happy paddling

A great little tent in most of the ways that really matter. It's a breeze to set up (leave the fly on), roomy enough for my compact frame, sturdy, weatherproof, and all the rest. If it's hailing sideways on a mountain pass, this aluminum-polyester fortress is a lot tougher than it looks and will assuredly keep you dry. In my stomping grounds in Indiana, it's overkill, though. Horizontal rain doesn't happen, but agonizing humidity does, so I might prefer more ventilation and less weight. However, on the few occasions I've had to sleep in it during truly heinous weather, I've been grateful for everything it has to offer.

I bought this tent in preparation for a Scout trip to Philmont, NM. For eight nights of camping in Michigan and 12 nights in New Mexico, I have absolutely no complaints with this tent. I was the first tent set up at night and the first down in the morning. The two-pole design is a real time saver! The dual vestibules allow for a great deal of "stuff" to be stored out of the weather, and the dual doors allow two campers to access the tent without disturbing their tent mate. I bought the footprint, but have been unable to figure out how the clips work - I just lay the tent on top of it. All-in-all this was the bargain I was looking for. It has handled rain, hail, snow and severe heat and has come out shining!

I bought the tent at REI used-gear sale, it was almost new with footprint. Have used it several times, including trips to Redwood National Park, Pointe Reyes, Santa Cruz Island, etc.. Like the tent very much, a lot of vestibule room on either side of the tent. People have complained about the shape of the vestibules, but I found them very usable. Another good feature is that it is extremely easy to set up, it takes one person less than 3 minutes to set up the whole thing. And also easy to pack. Some negatives. Because of the shape of the tent, the head room does appear to be cramped. Fortunately, people with our size (I'm 5'8 and my wife is 5'5) can still move around easily inside(with both of us in the tent). Condensation can be a problem(but they say every tent has it). My way to fix it is to always keep the built-in windows open. If that's not enough, crack the canopy doors open a bit also. Haven't had a chance to try it out in wet weather. Overall, great tent for the price I paid.

Bought 6 Kelty V-2 tents for a Boy Scout Troop. So far they have out performed my expectations. Easy to set up and we have never, EVER got wet. Although we did loose one to a falling tree..

Customer Service

Called for replacement parts, cheaper to buy a new tent. A single pole was $40.

Bought this tent this summer after searching high and low for a two-person, three season tent that weighed between five and seven pounds. Perfect! Love the two doors and vestibules. Find the fly to be a little heavy on condensation, but most of the time, I sleep with the vestibule unzipped, thus increasing ventilation and decreasing condensation. Very, very easy to set up. Only drawbacks that I have found: flimsy tent stakes-I bought Kelty's Nobendium stakes as replacements and have been very pleased with them. Also, the design of the footprint is a bit weird...has buckles on it-are you supposed to attach it to the fly? Why? Have had better luck using a piece of plastic cut to fit under the tent. Overall, I love this tent. I've always been high and dry. Would definately buy this tent again!

Excellent tent! I used to use a nato army issue tent for car camping, but it was heavy, and depressingly dark inside. When my wife and I got a VW camper, we ditched the big tent and bout the V2 for canoeing, backpacking, etc. It is excellent for 2 smaller people (I'm 5-8, 150, she is 5-5 115lbs). Only problem I've found is condensation on the inside of the fly gets on you when trying to get out the vestuble in the morning, due to the steep walls (hard to avoid contact with your shoulders) I tests up very easily, and is built with quality care & contstruction techniques. Highly recommended! Ours was a 2000 model, bought in 2001 for 175.00 cdn (2001 was 250!) I think ours has a nylon fly (not polyester like newer ones) so that's something i'm keeping an eye on, but no troubles so far.

I bought this tent a year ago. In that time I have been out for more then 30 days in it. These days ranged from hot summer trips of rain and humidity, to sub-zero days in the winter with 1 1/2 feet of snow falling on one occassion over night. This tent performed GREAT! On one occasion a buddy went with me. I am 6''1" 220 lbs, he is 6''4" 230 lbs. It was way to cramped. However my son is 6''0" 150lbs and it was o.k. My wife is 5''0" 110 lbs and it was better. It is the perfect winter solo tent. A bit heavy for summer solo trips. But fine when you split the tent & the rain fly up. The fly works great as a cover on those perfect nights.

Read the review on Backpacker.com; it speaks volumes about this tent. I agree with pretty much all of it. The Vortex 2 is a great tent (it looks like a stealth bomber) with tons of storage and decent sleeping space. Myself and a buddy both spent a few nights on the Chatooga river; I''m 5''11" 180, he''s a bit bigger. Although sleeping space was plenty, I don''t know how we''d fare trapped for longer than 8-10 hours. Might get a little cramped. Anyway, this tent has been through torrents of rain without leaking. Condensation can sometimes be small nuisance and the ventilation could be a bit better. All in all, I''m glad I bought this tent.
