I recently bought the Approach for an upcoming backpacking trip in Colorado. This tent is phatty! Have spent quite a few nights in it so far, one including a fierce rainstorm. The tent stayed completely dry inside, however there was a considerable amount of condensation in the vestibule, but i can handle that. (The fly comes factory sealed, but the perimeter floor seam must be sealed on your own. MHW provides seam grip.) I think I need to do some more tweaking with the fly for more ventilation. Probably would be cramped for two people as there is not much room in the vestibule for gear. I use the tent as a solo shelter and it works perfectly. Gear and i nice and dry inside with dirty boots outside, yet dry. A little expensive but well worth it for the high quality and attention to detail that you get from Mountain Hardwear

Customer Service

No personal experience, but i had a friend who managed to get his Mountain Hardwear jacket covered in blood and MHW sent him a new one that was a more technical jacket than the previous one!

This is one great small and lightweight tent. Vestibule is smallish, and headroom is low, but these are small sacrifices for such a light freestanding tent. If you are a tall person, this is a great tent for you. I am 6'1" and use a long length sleeping bag. I have several inches at one end and a nice big triangular area at the other end for extra gear and such. I have only spent a couple of nights in this tent so far, but I am really impressed. This past weekend I spent a couple of VERY WET nights on the Olympic Coast and stayed perfectly dry. Plenty of mesh = great ventilation. This tent packs down very small. If you have questions about this tent, I would be happy to answer them. Email me (as of 3/22/01 the mailandnews.com servers are down hopefully to be back soon) or post to the outdoorreview message board.
