I have had this tent 2 summers and it is the best tent I have ever seen!! I have spent over 50 nights in it already and have seen it all. Once in South Dakota it hailed golf ball size hail and rained 2 inches in 3 hours, it stood up and laughed at the weather while sitting in a 3 inch deep puddle. Another time in windy Wyoming it was blowing 60 mile per hour gusts and it didn't bow to the wind. Another time in Wyoming it snowed 8-10 inches overnight and didn't the tent was victorious the next day. After dusty camp outs I will wash it down with the jet attachment on the hose and it stays perfectly dry. This tent is also very easy to set up, by myself this takes less than 10 minuets, my favorite feature is that it comes with triangulated stakes and can be set up ENTIRELY with outer mitts on in the winter. When we car camp this tent proves itself yet again when you realize that you can fit one very small cot inside. The only downside to this tent is that it does not support a gear loft and with two people is crowded, however, it's interior size is made up in its extremely spacious vestuble.

I bought this tent a few years ago and thought it was the greatest thing for the first few uses. After that I realized how long it seems to take to setup and how the foot area is way too small and gets my bag wet every time. The quality is exceptional and it has a ton of storage inside and in the vestibule. I use it as a one person because I like to have alot of room but since the tent is so short it really cancels out the extra room at the front.

Ease of setting up is relative: when you''ve done it over 100 times, any tent is easy. I''ve used it during approx. 250 nights when CYCLE-TOURING in nearly 3 years. The tent appealed to me as it seemed like a sturdy tent, reminiscent of the NF Tadpole, but had charming windows. The same windows can be bothersome when you, like me, travel in the midsummernight sun areas like Scandinavia or Canada. The weight is very low for such a large tent, around 2,5 kg which is perfect for a solo-tourer like me who wants a bit more comfort than can be found in most 1-person coffins. Overall I liked it, and I''ve used it continuously during a year long trek.. I still enjoyed sleeping in that tent after a year. But now it''s gone: small holes in the floor & foot print, a fly that has scratches near the poles and has been mauled by a dog... so I''m searching for another tent. Considering the amt of use in 3 years, I''m not dissatisfied.

I''ve had trouble contacting Mtn Hardwear by e-mail in the past, but have no complaints about service from importer(s) when the front pole broke.

I have been holding off writing a review for this tent until I was sure of its performance. My wife and I went camping in it over the weekend and now I am ready to write this review. I am completely happy with this tent. This past weekend we camped out in 50mph gusts and pouring rain with temp''s in the mid 30''s and were completely protected. It was great. The window in the fly in top of the tent gave us a great show of the lightening. Even with the heavy gusts of wind, I didn''t have to use guy lines (a 4 pole design probably helped a lot). It is light (even with 4 poles), small, a breeze to set up, and packs well. I would highly recommend this tent. One word of warning, I am just over 6'' tall and barely fit in this tent. Since my wife is only 5'' tall, I can sleep kind of at an angle down the middle of the tent. I am not sure if 2 6'' tall people with 15 deg bags would fit in it.

Very pleased with the performance of this tent. I''ve used it on various occasions from hardcore packing to regular camping hasn''t dissapointed. Holds up terrific to heavy winds and never had a problem with hawaian rain showers. Little condensation problem when camping by the beach but what can you expect. The only minus on the tent is cramped foot space. Overall a high quaility crafted tent, as long as your not to tall it will not dissapoint.

Customer Service

Bought from REI. Easy website to use and awsome customer service, being in hawaii that a huge plus and the reason they get my business.

I shopped around for months to find a tent. I wanted a free-standing, roomy 1 person, and excellent quality. Well, this is the tent. I believe the tent is made of parachute quality materials. The poles are top-of-the-line Easton brand. My biggest complaint is the length of the floor. I am 6''3 and by feet rub the inside to the tent. My feet or head rubs the tent all night. Unless of course, I curl up into a little ball. Also, you can only sleep in one direction. Your head has to be near the door. So, face your tent accordingly. Or, you will get a head full of blood all night. Windows work great for stargazing or viewing unwanted intruders (crooks, hillbillys, bear, etc).

I have used this tent on numerous occasions in the deserts of southern Utah. I have yet to find a tent that works better than this one for ventilation on really hot nights. The mesh side walls are perfect for those occasional, and welcome, cool breazes that blow at night and with only roof ventilation you would never enjoy the cool relief. I know the major grip with this tent is the short floor space, but I am 6 ft 4 inches tall and weigh close to 200 lbs and I love this tent. Even with two people in it, it is roomy and comfortable. I find it easy to set-up and the ground reaching vestibule a major plus, with the mesh walls and roof. One especially hot and humid evening spent in Buckskin Gulch/Paria River Canyon with the threat of a thunder storm, I needed to leave the rainfly on overnight. It didn't rain much, but I was comfortable inside the tent with the ample ventilation even with the rainfly on.

On one occasion while camping in Lake Havasu, AZ, one of my drunken friends fell on this tent and broke the small pole over the foot area and bent the other two long poles. The winds gusted to over 30mph and this tent still didn't budge. Although the down side was that I had to make my friend pay for new poles, because Mountain Hardwear would not replace them. I guess that should be expected though.

great, to short, not easy to set up in rain, great quality

Customer Service

I agree with everyone else on most topics. I did find the tru-hiker to be a bit of a chore to put up in the rain. It got wet. I sold mine to a friend who is a bit shorter than me because i found the tent to short. I am 5' 11" and my feet rubed the tent roof and pulled down some condensation. If it wasn't for the wet toes i would have kept the tent. I do miss it.

my stars are for if i was shorter.

The tent is actually roomier than I was expecting and seemed ample for myself and partner (1.8m and 1.6m respectively). Having a reasonable vestibule helps and certainly keeps the inside of the tent clean and dry.

I found putting it up is a bit of a chore (4 poles, 11 pegs) but I guess it gets easier with practice. I'd estimate it takes one person around 15 minutes. (I was able to do it by torchlight however).

The see-thru windows (two of them) are cool for star gazing but you should be aware that the tent design doesn't allow for them to be 'curtained' (have to use a towel or something.

Weight and size are pretty much as stated. The bag is bigger than the stated minimum dimensions so something is needed to keep the package 'compressed' if size is important.
