If fly fishing is an interest to you, and you ever have the oppertunity to get out to the Yakima River (Washington State) you'll experience some of the most beautiful country God has created. Additionally, you'll experience more wind than what is normal in other parts of the counrty.

I purchased my Clipper in order to have a solid, small, free standing pack tent for this trip. It did everything that I expected from being easy to set up, even in the Dark; to withstanding the winds it was exposed to.

I only had one nights sleep in my tent as the first morning I discovered its one flaw...it won't float. Once the stakes were removed a gust of wind fliped it into the mighty Yakimaw River. Ridding in it was all my expectations of a great week in the outdoors. (Bummer)

Anyway...my one night test hope was enough to convince me. I've already purchased a second one.

By the way, if you do happen to loose your tent in the Yakima River, the up side is your only about 2 1/2 hours away from REI HQ. See, every cloud realy does have a silver lining.

I'm very pleased with the Clipper. Great price, lightweight, great ventilation and easy to setup. I wouldn't want a roommate in it, but could fit one if necessary. It's best for one person and their gear. Served me well while manning a PC at the Armed Forces Eco-Challenge in June, near Delta Junction, AK.

I originally ordered a Sierra Designs Clip Flashlight, but they were out of stock. I received a 20% off coupon for my trouble, and ordered the Clipper. I can't imagine the SD tent being worth the extra dough!

Outstanding! Never had a problem.

the clipper is great! I couldn't recommend a better one or two man backpacking tent. keeps me dry and warm without the condensations problems. Very well ventalated for those hot summer nights. only complaint is the floor might be a little to thin? Haven't had any problems with it though!
So light weight, especially split up between two people.
GET THE CLIPPER, YOU WONT BE DISSAPIONTED!

I bought this tent for it's light weight, price and it is self supporting. I needed a tent that my wife and I could take on quick light trips, (instead of our 4 season beast). So far this seems like a great tent, I have not been able to use it yet but the preliminary run-through seems great. I will post more this summer and fall as this tent gets used and abused.

Great tent! I have put this 3-season tent to use many times. It is a light-weight tent that is easy to set up, about two minutes, and easy to take down. When it gets sprinkled with mud from the rain, it's easy to clean- some soap and water and a cleaning cloth will do. When the night cools, just lay back and relax and feel the breeze enter through the netting. It is a little harder to cool off if it's real hot or humid outside, but definitively beats other tents. It has never become too hot or unconfortable with two people. The rain fly is easy to put on and take off. It has ventilating system that works well, although to can't open it very wide. You shoudln't anyway if it's raining outside. It has a great zipper on the rain fly and a failry large vestibule. It can get a bit humid inside during the rain, but it does not take long to cool off. I recommend buying the REI Clipper Footprint. The floor seems a little thin for some terrain, but it has never ripped on me. It has two large pockets on the inside that are very handy. Although I don't use the guy lines very often, they have done the job when I've needed them. I recommend buyin an extra set of stakes. The ones that come with the tent will bend after many uses. Great zippers that do not make noise when it is windy outside. I have never had a problem with the zippers.

This three season tent is lightweight, easy to set up and extremely stable in high winds. I just got back from a three week scientific expedition in Chile's Torres del Paine National Park (or you can just call it Patagonia), and the Clipper tent is what I called home for the whole trip. In Patagonia the tent experienced the strongest winds I have ever felt in my whole life. With the help of only three guylines, of the five total available points, the tent stood strong. It never buckled and took the punishment just as good as the other tents on the expedition (North Face Expedition 25). The only complaints, and this in nit-picking, are about the vestibule and the hook and loop on the top of the rainfly. The vestibule on this tent is very tiny, with barely enough room for a backpack and boots. This tent will be a tight squeeze for two people and gear on any trip longer than a couple of days. The rainfly can be rolled up in good weather by use of a hook and loop system on the top of the tent. Unfortunately the loop in wicking and in rainy conditions water seeps through and into the tent. Besides those two minor details, the tent is a marvel. For the price and weight it simply can't be beat. In ANYTHING Mother Nature can throw at you, you can safely call this tent your home away from home.

Customer Service

The customer service at REI is second to none. I have a wide array of REI products and for good reason. They make excellant products and if anything should go wrong they will either replace it or fix it, they never leave you hanging.

Awesome tent. I've used on several occasions and it has always performed flawlessly. Minimum weight is about 5 lbs with just enough room for 2 people and their stuff. The 3 intersecting poles provide a study shelter that has shrugged off high winds with minimal shaking. The vertical sidewalls allow full use of the footprint. Because all the mesh is up high I've even stayed warm in late fall in New England where the temps dropped into the 20's. The hooded vent in the rainfly really keeps condensation down to almost nothing (only the non-breathable part of the floor got wet which is unavoidable in any tent). I would recommend this tent to anyone that wants a 3+ season shelter that wants an efficient, strong design for their wilderness adventures.

Great tent for the money. Easy to setup and free standing. I had the NiteLite but returned it due to the none free standing situation. I lost some square footage, but since I'm a single user I didn't feel that was an issue. Setup is very fast and you can't get confused, unless you cross the two side poles in the front like I did once, duh! After that it is a piece of cake. Felt pretty stupid and didn't let anyone see it in the camp site. Took it out on a short jaunt with a buddy in 18-30 weather. He forgot the tent I loaned him and we had to share. :-( Well, I thought it would be a tight fit due to the lose of footage, not even close. We fit everything we needed in the tent and vestibule. I don't store my pack in the vesitbule anyway. Very nice and comfortable. Tent heated quickly with a small lantern, keep it away from the screen!! We had what would have amounted to condensation, but was ice instead. I believe the condensation would be a non-issue if the vestibule flue is open, or at least greatly reduced. I guess it will always be an issue when you have people breathing. The only con so far is that there is no footprint or gear loft for this tent.

Customer Service

Good customer service. Didn't want to take back the nitelite, but they changed their minds.
