One of the best tents I've had the pleasure of sleeping in. Easy set-up; well vented, had all the room I needed for myself and gear in inclimate weather. Spent one hellish night in it on Kusugi Ridge in Alaska on a Boy Scout outing in '98. Rain, cold temps., and 60 mph wind. I repeat, hellish. Everyone was securing tents and flies and chasing wind driven items in the night. I spent perhaps my finest night on the spongy tundra and slept through the whole thing. Woke up feeling wonderful. Tent performed flawlessly. I've used this tent from the woodlands of Pennsylvania (without fly) to the tundra of Alaska. Buy the best tent you can afford. Like my dad always said "It only costs a little more to go first class!"

A great deal on a really good tent. A cinch to setup, once you figure out which pole goes where. Rigid wind-shedding shape. Easy access though the large doors. The no-see-ums stay outside, while you look at the stars through the mesh ceiling. Tent stakes are a little weak and bend easily. Fly attaches with nylon clips to the tent, for a truly free standing design. Fly is difficult to get drum tight.. it sags easily leading to condensation between the tent and the fly. Gear stays dry with the bucket design floor. Get a gear loft, floor space is limited with two.

REI has excellent customer service.

I have had this tent for a couple of years now and have used it in hot New York summers to cold Utah winters and it has been great. I have not had a problem with rain or snow. I especially like this tent because one person can set up without a problem.
It takes a bit of work to get the rain fly tight, but I have not had any problems when the fly has been loose. Color coding of the polls would be a help with set up.
Overall, a great tent.

I've owned this tent for over two years. This tent has performed in -10 F winter storms and in severe rainstorms.
The only water in my tent was drinking water that I spilled.
If the tent was pitched so the fly vent faced into the wind, rain might get in. Common sense prevents this.
I'm 6'4" 235 and I have shared this tent with my 6'2" brother. If this tent isn't big enough, get a hotel room.
The Mountain Convert 2 has plenty of guyloops to prevent pole breakage in fierce winds. Te vestibule flaps work well in deep snow. The tent could use gear loft loops. I sewed in my own loft loops.

So far has been a very servicable tent,a decent value compared to comparable tents from the northface or Sierra Designs. The vastibule is generous and interior room adequate, although if I were 6ft or more it might be little bit cramped.

The rainfly although weather worthy up to now, with no additional seam sealing other than the factory job,has a bit of tendency to sag against the tent walls, making it a bit noisy in the wind.Iwould not recommend for any serious alpine type trips,But is perfectly suitable for 3season or lower elevation snowshoe or x-country ski trips.

Customer Service

I have always recieved exceptional customer service from R.E.I.

This represents my first foray into higher quality tents. I've always had sub $100 tents which leaked, allowed entry of sand in windy conditions, etc. This tent is fairly light with its aluminum poles. The vestibule is excellent for storing muddy gear. Windy conditions requires a well staked fly to prevent flapping. Have not experienced snow with this tent but it's bombproof in rain and wind. I take this tent with my b.o.b. bike trailer and go deep into the woods. If I were travelling superlight I'd opt for a smaller, minimalist tent but is the 3 pound max savings worth it?

Great tent for two people... a must is that you have to seal the seems, but they provide ample sealer in which to accomplish this task. The tent is very easy to set up and break down making it a great choice to take anywhere...

I looked around and read lots of reviews before purchasing this tent. It has better than average ventillation with the 2 entrances and pop up vent on top. It's also a pretty good value for the money, as most other 4 season tents I looked had less features for more money. It's a great 4 season for backpacking, although a bit small for two people (I'm 6' 2").

I've used this tent on mountaineering trips for several years now. As two-person four-season tents go, I believe it is one of the finest you can buy for the price. I've used North Face and Sierra Designs two person tents that I found less packable and more expensive. The vestibule on the convert is large and useful. The propable opening in the ceiling makes for easy ventilation when cooking inside, and I now see a lot of other companies copying the design. While relatively easy to put up, color-coded poles would be useful in a white-out. The fly is somewhat more difficult to get taut than other tents, making it noisy in high winds. However, I've never suffered leaks with this tent, and I've put it through blizzards, wind storms, and down pours. I am considering replacing the tent with a comparable-sized single-wall tent that is lighter, but again, the prices are all far more than I paid for the convert.

Customer Service

I find REI's customer service to be one of the best in the industry.
