LEKI Ultralite Ti Trekking Poles Trekking Poles

DESCRIPTION

Designed for those seeking the ultimate in lightweight and durable gear, Leki introduces the Ultralite Ti trekking poles.. Titanium allows the shaft walls to be thinner without losing strength, providing for a 20% reduction in swing weight. Each three-section titanium/aluminum shaft weighs in at only 17-oz., yet remains extremely strong and durable. With an adjustable range of 23 - 52 inches, these telescoping poles can easily be strapped to a pack or adjusted to accommodate varying terrain. Flexible synthetic tips can flex up to 30°, without damaging the pole shaft. Carbide tips ensure long-lasting durability and an optimal grip on ice and rock surfaces.

The locking mechanism on one of my Leki Ultralite Ti Air Ergo poles failed on my first trip with them. When I returned them at REI, the salesman said someone else had come in earier that day with the same complaint. And on hiking websites I've heard similar stories of the locking mechanism failing. Despite the disappointing failure, I'm thinking of ordering another pair since they're such a good set of poles otherwise. Especially the weight at 14 ounces/pair, you can't beat that. But I don't want to have the same problem again, especially if I'm in the middle of a b'packing trip. I've given these poles a rating of 2 stars instead of 1 because I really WANT to like them. But I won't ever like them if they fail again, which mine did. Conclusion: Avoid these poles until Leki works out the kinks.
