I have used my explorer many times backpacking and I love it. No problems and pumps so much faster than the other filters I have tried. Have never had a problem with it clogging up, and the cleaning mechanism seems to work fine.

This is a great filter. I have used and abused this thing to death and only recently have I had any problems with its durability. This thing is built like a brick s-house and unfortunately weighs as much as one. The upper handle cracked and fell apart on me on a recent excursion but customer service is amazing. I dropped PUR an email and they sent the replacment parts "no questions asked" and free of charge.

Customer Service

Outstanding customer service. A true "no questions asked policy". Increases the value of this item three fold.

THE WATER TASTES GREAT. THE PUMP IS EASY TO USE AND THEN CLEAN. I HAVE USED IT IN WATER THAT WAS GUARANTEED TO HAVE GIARDIA AND E. COLI, ALONG WITH WHO KNOWS WHAT, WITHOUT A HITCH. FOR FOREIGN TRAVEL, I WOULD PICK UP THE NEW HEAD ATTACHMENT BEFORE LEAVING. CONTACT THE PUR SITE FOR DETAILS ASAP. BUT FOR THE MOUNTAINS, ESPECIALLY WITH LARGE GROUPS, THIS PURIFIER IS WONDERFUL. AS FOR BREAKING TWO HANDLES, I WONDER IF THE HANDLE WAS POSITIONED PROPERLY FOR USE.I AM NOT A SMALL GUY AND HAVE NEVER HAD SO MUCH AS A TUG FROM PUMPING THE HANDLE. FOR A PURIFIER, THE MECHANISM IS SMOOTH AND FILTERING SPEEDY.

This product is worth every penny I spent. I just wish that I had bought one sooner. You can get crystal clear water anywhere (O.K. maybe not in the desert), even from the outlet of a sewage plant (though not recommended at temperatures under 30 degrees). I have also used this while travelling abroad, very convienent and safe source of water.

The biggest complaint I've seen in the reviews of this product is the pump action is very difficult. Try a First Need if you think this is hard. Most filter's in this price range do the same filtration job but for ease of pumping you can't beat the Pur

For the most part this filter performs acceptably well. Occasionally, I've noticed that some particulates in the water can make it through the filter, which always makes me nervous. If something I can see can get through so can stuff that will make me sick (although I've never gotten sick from it that I know of). Also, unlike many of the other reviewers I do NOT like the taste of the water once its been filtered, filtered water is one of the few things that I dislike about hiking trips. But I'm probably spoiled by the excellent water that we can get from the tap locally (it depends on where you're located, but much of the local water comes from artesian wells and springs and tastes better than any bottled water I've tried). If you have to fill several containers with water make sure you eat a power bar first or have a friend to rotate pumping duties with, because it can be very tiring.

The ultimate purifier for families. When backpacking with three kids and wife, this beauty makes short work of pumping LOTS of water quyickly. This thing is bulletproof, easy to clean and never misses. A tad heavy, but you need to select this for volume use, not portability.

I have used this pump for 6 years. Recently the filter gave out and I replaced it (this is a slightly tedious process). The new filter was not working correctly and PUR replaced the complete pump at no cost. I received great customer service from the company. A great pump for overseas adventure travel and for weekend local trips. Water tastes good and we have never been sick after drinking water purified by this PUR pump.

It works well , but you will have to prefilter the water a bit. It's worth the money
