Awesome filter! Sucks in water really easily and pumps it out very easy and FAST. So easy that I could pump it while holding it up in the air over a pot without even connecting the outlet hose.

I had a Katadyn Hiker before and it was nowhere as easy to use as this filter.

Pumping requires more effort on the Hiker and pumps less water compared to the Guide.

Five of us took this filter on a four day hike around Isle Royale NP. We had an MSR Miniworks for a backup but the PUR was all we needed. I could fill three bottles in the time the MSR could fill one. It's easy to use and pumps a lot of water fast. You can buy smaller, lighter filters but if you have high volume water needs I would recommend the PUR Guide. We were very happy with this filter.

This filter has its pros and cons. It is the fastest in its price range, in large part because its filter allows more gunk to pass than the finer filter used in the comparable MSR Miniworks EX (which I own). A couple of smaller negative points vs. the MSR - it uses 2 hoses (vs. 1 for the MSR) which increases contamination potential, and its "bicicle pump" action (vs. lever on MSR) is more cumbersome. The MSR is also easily cleaned in the field, which you cannot do with the PUR. Overall, a good performer if you're taking short trips in areas with clean water to begin with. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and sacrifice a bit of speed for a smarter design and greater filtration capacity.

Got this a few weeks ago, used it on a couple 2-5 day hikes, and it works like a charm. I use it in the high Rockies so the water is very clear to begin with but this thing filters very fast, not as light as others I have used but great non-the-less.

good pump I guess, I havent got sick and I have sucked water out of some narly looking spots. The only comlaint is the stupid carry bag ripped along the seam the first time I put the filter in it.

Took the filter on a 5-day 50-miler in Isle Royale NP. Our crew was 5 guys, and we used about 10 gallons of water per day. The PUR was used for the whole trip, and it was great. It is easy to hold and pump, and very fast. Typically, we would fill 10 Nalgenes and a 2.5 gallon tank in about 10-15 minutes. We changed the filter halfway through the trip (it had quite a few miles on it when we left) and with a fresh filter the pumping is almost effortless. The unit is simple, easy to set up, and filter changing is easy. Very pleased!

Havent taken this out on the trails yet, but as far as first impression go...this is undoubtably the best filter for the money. I have only tried it in the store...yes store. And in such a simple environment the Pur guide pumped water at an unbelievable rate. While the MSR was just trickeling out. I have tried the sweetwater on the trail, and i can say this sucks too. I am thinking the expensive replacement cartridge is worth the money if a filter works this good. I will post another review after I take it on a 30-40miler next month.

After researching many filters the PUR Guide proved to be an excellent choice. It is very easy to use, connects easily to nearly any size water bottle (Nalgene works great), and pumps clean water faster than any other pump I have used. Can fill a 32 oz Nalgene bottle in less than a minute in about 50 pumps. Large long hoses make for easy use in austere locations like river edge or from a canoe. Only drawback is that replacement filters are required and go for about $30. I used it side by side with the MSR Waterworks and the Sweetwater Guardian on a canoe trip with friends and the Guide outpreformed both. An outstanding filter for the money.
