I bought mine about five years ago. I liked that it could filter water at a reasonable rate. The handle is easy to hold and provides easy leverage and doesn't tire my hands. The water intake hose tends to clog too easily. It's nice to see that PUR redesigned the the clean water outlet, the old ""J"" hook tended to launch like a fire hose. The size is relatively small and packs well. Overall, I really like and will probably purchase another one to replace my aging unit. It's just a little pricy, which is why *I CAN'T* give all five cool trees!

Having used the a First Need filter and a Katadyn filter my arms really like the Hiker, and its ease of pumping. The Hiker is the easiest backcountry filter I've used. I've been using it in the Cascades of Oregon for approx. 3 years and never had one complaint. In fact its the filter everybody grabs first when its time for a water run. Great filter!

    Customer Service

Never had to contact them, never had a problem with it.

First Need ceramic filter was great for a year but then clogged up. No matter how much back-flushing and cleaning it still did not prevent really strenuous filtering. Katadyn was the same way.

A good little pump. I hate that I have to use one, but this one makes pumping about as painless as it can be. It's easy to clean in the field, idiot-proof, light and convenient. I love the carbon filter that fits into Nalgene bottles, but it wasn't designed for Platypus, which means that it doesn't fit like a glove there, which is where you are with most filters anyway. I lost mine and got another.

I use this 3-year-old PUR waterfilter on my epic mtn bike rides into the backcountry. Although I have never owned a microfilter before, this one seems perfect. It's a simple, elegant design that's easy to use, and it does the job quickly. For $35 on sale at REI, it was a bargain (I have the older non-water bottle nozzle and prefer it).

An excellent filter, never changes water taste, fast to pump once you find the best way to use it.
The bottom part of the filter body can be improved to help grab it better when pumping.
Also printed instructions can be improved by organizing the information better and including the use of the small silicon container included with filter.

small, light, good capacity. the hiker filter is all you need in north america. if you are using in other countries use a iodine charged filter that can be purchased at the same place you buy the pur waterfilter.

The PUR Hiker is my favorite piece of gear. It's easy to use and most importantly very reliable. I've never had a problem pumping water or getting sick from drinking the purified water. I've use the filter for over 2 years now in varying conditions from hot summer days to cold winter nights at 13,000 feet.

    Customer Service

I've never needed to contact PUR for anything. The Hiker works great.

I've used the Hiker for several years and it is the most reliable purifier I have tried. It's lightweight, fast and easy to use. The downside? The filter doesn't seem to last very long but I haven't had a problem with clogging if I try to use relatively clear water or use a coffee filter around the intake.

    Customer Service

I had a broken part on another PUR filter and send an e-mail to PUR. I never received a reply.

This filter works great though it doesn't last too long. I never had any troubles with it in the field - as the filter element wore out it required frequent priming. I am, however, a bit disappointed with the short filter life. It worked for me for five trips which averaged 5 days a piece.

I got this on sale for 15 off MSRP. I am very pleased with it. It can go for about 200 gallons before filter replacement, which is pretty long. It filters well, doesn't clog very easily, and just works good overall. A good filter if you don't have the money for a purifier. Good filter for anybody, anytime.
