I have been using this filter for a couple of years now and have had no problems at all with it. I've pulled water from some very questionable sources and have yet to catch a bug. On one recent trip to the Big South Fork area of Tennessee, I was so desparate that I pulled water from a shallow mud puddle along a horse trail. The water tasted as good as anything from a bottle. This unit may be slower than some models and it clogs easily in dirty water, but it is easily and quickly cleaned and provides safe, good-tasting water. This is a top-notch filter. Customer Service I have had no customer service issues. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
None I have used one of the original Waterworks filters (now the Waterworks II) for about ten years with GREAT results. Compared to what I had before this (a First Need Delux filter) this thing is fantastic. It may be slightly slower than some filters currently on the market, but for overall durability, ease of use and in-the-filed repairability, nothing even comes close. As a senior medical student, I can also state that it''s filtering system is the most reliable and complete of anything on the market. Will it protect you from everything? no, but damn close. Customer Service None better. Similar Products Used: First Need Delux |

This is a very good filter. People have complained about the filter clogging, but I only found that to be a problem after filtering about a gallon out of swamp water. When filtering from a lake, I was able to do many gallons without any appreciable loss of flow. Despite the above, the cleaning is VERY easy and this unit is field-ready. Man, its very cute to see some of you bicker about this product. One guy even said that he thew the thing away. haha.. Whatever... Prove it. Pur purifiers out everything, but have you heard about the recall? It relies too much on the iodine resin cuz its has such a bad mechanical filtering device. Stores that sells purifiers are not responsible. So the MSR filter cloggs up fairly quickly, its still better than having that stuff in your system right? Cleaning only takes about 2-3 min. Any slower and YOU might have a problem. It has a rugged, no non-sense design that works in the field and will give you the confidence to drink that pool of water on the side of the road. The double filtering system is a good concept. The second membrane at 0.2 micron will filter out everything that the first 0.2 micron filter doesn't get. Scared of viruses? Iodine tablet the water first and then filter it... the carbon removes the heavy metal. The only down side is maybe the price is a little too much. Similar Products Used: Pur |

I have had this filter for 3 years and have gone through a couple of gasket kits. It does a great job if your not trying to filter a mudpuddle. Remember, NO filter will work very well in mirky water. I had some concerns about hepatitus getting through but a medical friend of mine said they ride on the back of bacteria which this filter will catch. MSR also says if your afraid of the final product, although no one likes the taste use iodine as a killing agent. THEN run it through the filter again into a different bottle. Iodine is a heavy metal and the filter will take it out as you process it through and the carbon filter will "sweeten" the taste of the water. I highly recommend this filter. Customer Service I had some concerns about storing the filter in below zero weather on winter mountaineering trips. They were there and quick to handle my question. The internet is another great place to reach them. I have asked quized them for a location on rebuild kits and they got back to me the next day. Similar Products Used: PUR, Sweetwater. I find them to be good, but I really rely on my MSR. |

Goes off without a hitch, although the hose hook has a bad habit of pinching your fingers. It squeeks too much. Big deal,eh? Similar Products Used: None |

This filter if very easy to use, pumps a large quantity of water quickly. Field maintainance is easy, use chapstick on the O ring. Used it on a 10 day hike with 11 other guys. There were 2 other filters, but mine was used by everyone! Similar Products Used: None |

Recently used the MSR in the Adirondacks.....Pump volume is decent, sturdy, simple construction, water tastes pretty good. Although it's hard to beat iodine tabs in price! Similar Products Used: None |
