I've had a pair of limmers on a NOLS course. I they did fine. It was well worth the 400 tag

Limmer's Boots Rawk!! I'm on my second pair, due primarily to the fact that I didn't adequately care for my first pair, and they became cracked. You MUST, I repeat MUST, rub on the goop they give you!! I've gone up AND down both sides of Washington, 4 hrs apiece, in these things . . . like a bleeding plastic boot, they are.

I bought my Limmers shortly before a trip to Austria/Germany. Figuring all the walking would do them good, I brought them along. I was right, the walking broke them in, but my feet didn't like my bright idea. I have not had a chance to use my boots on the trail yet and I am excited to see how they react. The interior is comfortably molding to my feet while the exterior slowly decays. My breaking in period has cracked the sole?? and peeled the leather?? http://homepages.go.com/~patry/albums/album2/

Anyway, maybe I got a lemon, or maybe they don't like me, but I think its back to LL Bean for me.

Limmer boots are great for backpacking. I mean day after day, year after year, trip after trip. They continue to hold up and provide good support for feet and ankles. I love the roomy toe box and they are amazingly waterproof if you use boot grease as recommended . I needed to learn to lace mine differently for long down hill sections or up hill sections and very wet conditions. I have owned my boots for > 10 years now and absolutely love them- for backpacking (i.e. 5 day +/- trips ~ 10 miles per day) I prefer a lighter weight boot for day hiking unless the trail is very rocky.

Years ago I had a pair of Asolo boots which were also heavy and never fit me right. They just alway hurt my feet and felt small.

I found my boots to be heavy-duty, almost too much so. They are not the most comfortable boot as far as supporting your foot, they need inserts.I find myself wearing other boots because I find the Limmers cumbersome. They are a status boot.

To my predeccesor, SNIFF MY TOES!!!! Limmers are the absolute BEST footwear I have ever owned, so good in fact, that I just bought another pair as everyday office footwear cause they've fixed a chronic and serious ankle problem I have and have made me feel 5 years younger! Status boots??? Well, maybe that's why a wannabe day-hiker would buy them, but for the rest of us, they're a little known but truly rare treasure! Stuff a sock in it, babe!
