I purchased these boots three years ago and feel that I am able to write an accurate review. I am retired Park Ranger and have had years of experience with a variety of boots. Concerning the North Col's by L.L. Bean, as with all quality leather footwear, there was a substantial break in period. By using mink oil and walking many indoor miles, they began to mold to my foot. It is helpful to apply mink oil to exterior leather creases and toe box. With your feet in the boots, warm the exterior of the boot with a hair dryer. This will allow the mink oil to be readily absorbed into the leather. I do not recommend just slopping mink oil all over the boot, just the areas which need special attention. This technique will allow the molding of the boots to your feet and aid in breaking them in. These boots are an outstanding value. All leather, reasonable price, double stitched vibram soles! These boots are meant for the long haul. For years of use under moderate or heavy load. They are highly, highly recommended.
