grand traverse 2 ,I was hiking in sneakers untill i bought my merrell's. I enjoyed hiking in sneakers ! I could feel the trail,so to speak ,lol.I allways ended up saying the same old thing when i was hiking in them though "damb I could have broke my ankle just then " I solo hike, get it . and a trip up boot spur on mt. washington in late oct. could summit in sneaks snow too deep. Out I went for new boots! To fill every body in "if you buy something from L.L.Bean ,if wears out or gets damaged they will replace it !!!! no matter how old it is !! best garentee in the world ! thats why i buy my stuff there .its just a bonus they sell merrell grand traverse, well life time warnety or not the boot are the best . there like havin tanks on my feet. never even came close to twistin my ankle .if you like goin off trail like me there the best for bushwackin. herd a lot about heel bisters with them, but if tighten the top part of the boot you wont have the problem.i've hiked 20 nh. mts. with them and will never hike again in any thing else .In closeing ,if you like hiking buy -merrell grand treverse 2 !~~~ if your in .ne. i'll see ya ,happy hiking to all .

My wife says...Stay away, unless you frequently carry 50+ on your back. Too HD for simple backpacking and multi-day excursions. I guess the name says it all, they are reserved for K2.

After a disappointing year looking for a good deal on medium weight boots , my boyfriend bought these for my birthday. Although they cost more than I would have probably spent, I consider them a wonderful gift and excellent backpacking gear.
They've been hard to break in, but the sturdiness is appealing. And they have super-reinforced toes, but there's still lots of room in the toebox—both great features for a frequently bruised toenails sufferer like me. They're extrememly rugged and waterproof without sacrificing comfort. I do wish the arch was a bit more snug, but the heel feels nice, and all in all, these boots are well worth the price. I plan to have them for quite a while.
