I lucked out and got a pair of grade 8's for 150$. They have been up steep ice, mixed routes, mud flows, a fallen tree (don't ask), and packed snow. I use them with a leather boot and find that their rigidity is perfect. The long points allow you to penetrate the ice. I have found this important when the ice is melting and the face is starting to turn to slush because you can get that extra penetration to give you peace of mind.

I used these crampons to climb Tharpu Chuli in the Himalaya last year. They are well known as fantastic crampons for ice climbing but I am here to report they are bomb proof and secure on stuff less than rock hard and vertical. We encountered everything from snow slopes to glacier travel to short sections of steep ice. The most major climbing we encountered was about five hundred feet of 70 degree neve and though we chose not to rope up I felt very secure. There was also about 30 to 40 feet of hard ice near the summit but even though the exposure was terrific and we were at nearly 18,000 feet, again my feet were in solid. The anti bot plates worked flawlessly and I had no trouble with snow balling up at all. I was concerned intitially about the weight of these crampons but I didn't notice any special effort required from the weight. Spend the bit extra to get ahold of these crampons, you won't regret it.

I really like this make of crampons, they have been around a few years and seem to know what they're about. They Grade 8's are fantastic on steeper ice, waterfalls etc due to the long vertical front points. They are easy to fit adjust and very secure to the boot, they are not too heavy and don't collect too much snow. A wide range of accessories is also availabe (mono point etc).
I replaced my older ones with these as the front points are a lot better on the more vertical ice falls and that little bit of extra confidence is nice.

So far all pairs of Charlet Moser crampons I've owned have been bomb proof.
