This is a pretty decent helmet that has been eclipsed by the new development in the helmet market.

It is a durable but soft plastic shell that gets gouged over time when you scrape against the rock, etc. It is also kind of heavy compared to the newer helmets on the market. It's a good bargain at the price, but it lack sophisticated new features of the latest crop of helmets now available.

It sits on your head via a suspension system that is adjustable. It's not a foam liner system. I actually prefer the suspension system to foam. It's easier to change the fit when you need to wear a hat, etc. It's also lets the air flow around your head easier making it cooler to wear.

It's kind of heavy; and kind of big. I don't notice it too much, but every now and then, I'll get into a situation where it bugs me. It has headlamp bungy cords to hold the lamp in place, but the combined weight of the lamp and the helmet causes the whole thing to want to fall forwards down over my face -- and the neck strap has to be tighted to the point of choking. If you have a helmet like this, you may want to consider the kind of headlamp that keeps the batteries in a separate pouch that you keep in your jacket...

I've worn it for a number of years for ice and alpine climbing (not for summer rock climbing). It's done the job well, but now I'm looking for something lighter and more fully-featured.

none yet. Looking at Hugh Banner Olympus, Black Diamond Half Dome, Petzl. Petzl's dont fit my head for some reason. They seem quite popular, but I have to go with other brands...

In one word, this helmet is "decent". With each review I write, I look for something good to say about a product but this one is so bland that it''s hard to praise. Plain white plastic, generic sizing and suspension, and OK ventilation. If you''re looking for an inexpensive brain-bucket look no further. But if you want more from your helmet I would have to recommend the Petzl Ecrin.
