I have used the Alpinist a year now for 4 season hiking in Vt. Break-in for these boots was a challenge and honestly quite painful. They are a serious boot that requires a lot of time and some blisters before you can appreciate them. Once broken-in though, they are the best investment I've made. The more weight you carry, and longer you hike, the better they are appreciared. They work great with crampons and are stiff enough to edge fearlessly. I recommend them 100% as a heavy, supportive boot. Only downside is the high price.

This boot replaced Asolo Globalines, which broke (plastic exoskeleton)during a -20 winter hike. The Asolos were much softer and originally more comfortable but not as forgiving in heavy use.
