When I first bought this pair of boats, I thought it was the most ridiculus pair of boots I have ever bought. I wore them on a trip in the Marble Mountain Wilderness area in N. CA trying to break them in for a trip to Shasta. My feet killed me for 14 days straight. Then 6 months later I pulled them out again and started wearing them daily. I love them!! I have even sleep in them numerous nights. I have bought several pairs of Merrell boots in the last several years and have always been extremely pleased. The quality is phenomenal! I would recommend this pair of boots to everyone interested in mountaineering. (Just make sure your feet get used to them, they don't break in, they break you in)

Great overall boots, Got them for 60 bucks barely used. I use them mainly for waterfall ice but now that my feet are used to them, i wear them everywhere. they killed my feet for the first 2 weeks but my feet are used to them now. If using them for waterfall ice make sure you have a rigid crampon. It'll make your life a whole lot easier. I had to widen the toe bail on my Trango Harpoons a bit to get them to fit, but they work great now. These boots would be good for moderate mountaineering dude to the lack of insulation and its semi flexy nature. As long as you nikwax them the'll stay very water proof since theres very few seams on the boot.

got these bad boys on sale for $100 and was able to wear them on a four mile hike the same day without any problems. The 3 mm thick rough out leather can really take scrapes. This boot was reviewed in "Backpacker-Aug. 1996 with good reviews.

For the price you can't beat this boot. The leather is a thick full grain leather. I have never had a problem with water leaking into my boots. Well there was that time in Yellowstone that we got stuck in the "swamplands", but that was because the water went over the top. Needless to say, I had the driest feet of the bunch at the end of the day. The Vibram Clusaz sole is a monster. Slipping is very rare. The boot works well with crampons. I have Charlet Mosier Grade 8s. I had to adjust the bail by using the hammer side of my axe and hammering into the shape of my boot. I have not had a problem since.

My first pair of boots were lemmons. They leaked and lost their stitching right away. I sent the boots back. They restichted the boots but I still had a leak. I sent them back again and requested a new pair, I got them two weeks later.

Got these boots on sale for 150 bucks. Worth every penny. Used them mountaineering in Colorado for a week, kept my feet warmer than some people in plastics. Great flex to them, they are stiff, yet flex enough for comfort. Work great with crampons, although I've had some problems with the Charlet Moser Grade 8 ice climbing crampons as the toe bail seems too narrow for these boots. A very excellent mountaineering boot!

I got these boots 3 years ago and have been happy with them for the past 2yrs 9 months. It took the first 3 months (and 100 miles) to break them in, but now they fit like a glove. Perfect for long trails with heavy pack, off trail use, and light mountaineering (ie flexible cramponing). Good traction on rock or snow, flexible enough for all day hiking. I do wildlife research in spring/summer in the Sierra and wear them everyday for snowshoeing to scrambling up talus. Great boots if they fit you (Merrell is about the only brand my feet) and you need heavy boots for day in day out wear.
