I have used these boots for 2 years in all conditions in lake district and snowdonia, I found the boots initially painful and used to take "walked in" spare footwear, volume and heel pads cured the lifting problems, and once broken in they have been comfy and offered excellent ankle support, the stitching on the boot uppers started unpicking after six months or so,but this only seems to have affected the boots cosmetically but I have to say that the sole on the left boot has got evidence of splitting and is no longer waterproof, I suspect the action of the stiffener under the sole has caused this failure as the boot soles are not excessively worn, I have pampered and really cared for these boots so i`m disappointed at only 2 years use and post this as an honest review.

A beautiful boot. Stiff but flexible enough to wear all day on a regular hike. Breaking in was easy. I wore a liner sock with a mid-weight over it, identified a hot spot or two and cured it with mole-skin. No blisters to report as yet. Taken them around New England, and up a few higher boys out west. Toes got a little cold at 3AM, half way up an ice field during a rest, but warmed up nice once underway. Perform well with weight on your back. Lacing system is good, but it took a little experimenting to find the perfect setup.

So far I have used these boots on a wet canoe camping trip into algonquin and for a bunch of mountian climbing in the Julian Alps of Europe. These boots are very durable, comfortable, supportive, and they do a more than addequate job of keeping your feet dry in wet conditions, be it snow or rain. The quality of rubber on the soles is the best I've encountered when it comes to grip and I was able to simply walk up smooth rock faces, never having to worry about slipping. I have previously owned Addidas mountaneering boots, and never before had a bought Solomons. Overall, I'm more than happy with my purchase!

I must admit to a bias for Salomon boots - they fit my feet better than anything else out there. The Super Mountain 8s were no exception, although I did replace the standard insoles with a pair of Superfeet.

The One Pull lacing system is as smooth as butter, and the round laces stay tied. The 8s are less stiff than the 9s without sacrificing support for the activities I do, and are stepin crampon compatible.

Quality construction, comfortable fit, no heel lift. these are the ONLY mountain boots I enjoyed breaking in.

And I got them on sale thru REI.
