Great shoes! I wasn't sure I wanted either the Aces or Newtons till I read everyone's reviews. I knew what to expect and sure enough everyone was right. Hard to break in but after I climbed a few times on a wall they went to work. Smearing was a bit of a problem but they were light and comfortable. Great advanced shoes!

I ordered from Shoreline Mtn. via the Internet. They were quick to contact me about an out of stock harness. So after reordering a new harness (Petzl Calidris, which is awesome, yet no review here)my order was shipped. Even after recontacting them due to a lost credit card, they still fixed everything and my order was fast and accurately received.

The shoes are great; however, breaking them in was quite difficult, not for comfort, but rather for performance. I recommend hammering, and sanding the souls.
Once broken in they are great for all day use especially multipitch routes. Though showing the regular signs of continuous use, they are stil in good shape.
If you gym climb a lot I advise getting a second pair due to their lack of stick.

The Aces have been my first and only shoes for about eight years of climbing, predominantly in Yosemite. Great shoes. They have been resoled thrice, are now as supple as socks, and I believe it's time to buy some new shoes. I'll be looking for shoes that are like the Aces in every way, except without the board-lasting. Not that this was bad - it certainly helps durability and all-day multi-pitch comfort. It's just that the Aces do not excel in sensitivity when it comes to delicate smearing. Like any board-lasted shoe, they can skate a little. Still, if one were to own just one shoe, I would recommend this one highly.

Great all-around trad shoe from beginner to expert. Excellent edging shoe OK smearing once broken in. Deep heel cup holds your foot well but cuts into your achillies. Will last through several resoles. A little pricy, pick up last year's model on sale if you can find it.

Good all around shoe if you only own one pair. Edging and smearing are its strengths. Toe is a little blunt for small pockets but assymetrical last does allow for standing on big toe only. Very durable; I mostly climb on very coarse granite with them and they have held up very well. Somewhat pricey but worth it if you only have one pair of shoes.

I have had a pair of Aces for 7 years and am on my 4th resole. They are super durable, keep their shape, and remain supportive. Their performance after all these years is very comparable to their first season. I bought them very tight and they are amazingly comfortable despite. Some people complain about them being too stiff. I like thin face climbing so I prefer having a platform to stand on when using a micro-feature or toeing a tiny pocket. Unless you climb radically overhanging routes or do nothing other than boulder, stiff shoes will do you a real favor. They also smear beautifully. I can find no fault with them.

The Boreal Aces I think are a really good all around shoe. the pair I have now is my second I really like the fact that I can wear them all day on multi pitch climbs. if I could change one thing about the shoe would be the price. and the fact that they don't perfom well on steep route's.

This shoe has performed well for me. As an overall shoe I feel that it is definately one of the best but for shorter more technical climbes there are better choices. I would definately recommend it as a first pair of rock shoes to anyone. It is also a good shoe for those long lead climbs. Overall I am happy with its performance. I will probably have them resoled when the time comes but I will eventually like to buy a more technical shoe for shorter climbs.

I have been climbing with this shoe for about four years now and have found it to be a great all around shoe. may not be the best at everything but it can hold its own on any route.

Though i bought these shoes mostly for indoor climbing, i've since used them for some (beginner) outdoor climbing s well. with little experience with other shoes i find it hard to compare but once broken in they gave me no problems and were surprisingly comfortable. good all round shoes.
