I have had one hell of a time during the past two weeks trying to find a new shoe. ive climbed sharma's evo, 5 10s, la spot, and they were satisfactory compared to these. i understand we all have different shaped feet. but if you r mildly flat footed, and an intermediate climber try these. I've tried on ever single pair of climbing shoes in the seattle area. I came across the red chili sausalito in lynnwood wa @ rei. They were a 2010 model and its 2/11 so i got a crazy good deal. ended up paying 57.87 after tax. anyways, perfect fit. amazing crack shoe, edge, toe, heel, smearing, backstep, resting, all the above. im happy. good safe climbs to all!

I have large feet and for the last six months finding a new pair of shoes has been a full time project. I've pro-dealled half a dozen pairs of shoes from Five.Ten through my gym, and I've also tried on 5 different models of the new Mad Rocks, as well as many others by Scarpa, La Sportiva, etc... I came across the Red Chilli's because I had begun going into stores asking to try on every pair of shoes size 13 and up (I'm a 14 street shoe). The first thing I noticed about these shoes was that they were better made than Five.Tens. This was surprising as the Red Chilli's are not as well known. But the soles were glued and brushed with care, the lining was very smooth, the tongue well cut, and they had a boarded mid-sole that was minimal yet sufficient. Believe it or not, after not fitting into any Mad Rock or Five.Ten 13's (except the Spire, which has done very well by me, and which I've been seeking to compliment with a better edging shoe) the size 12 Sausalito wound up being my size (the box said 12, the tag on the shoe said 12.5). Off to Cathedral Ledge... The first thing I did in these shoes was climb the Beast Flake (New England readers should know this route well, if not, you better ask somebody. The flake is one of the most spectacular pitches I've ever climbed anywhere.) After a little hesitation I began to really enjoy climbing in these puppies. They have the support to edge like a champ, ball or toe, but what surprised me was how well they smear on granite. Intuition suggests that a softer sole should stick better, but the harder soles on the Sausilitos just seemed to bite those granite crystals. This was my first attempt at a 5.9 onsight lead on gear, and I was successful. I'm not sure I'm ever going to wear the Spires again. The most important factor in choosing a shoe is fit. That being said, I would like to attest to the workmanship, comfort, and stickiness of these shoes. Definitely try on a pair of Chilli’s if you get the chance.

I just started climbing recently and did'nt know what shoes to buy.A freind recomended the sausalito so i descided to try them, knowing very little about rock shoes at the time. Now I'm glad I did. It's a comfortable shoe thats great at edging , I wish the rubber was a little grippier. Thanks!
