First, the BW 8.6 has a single pick sheath. i.e. Despite what one of the reviewers said, the sheath is bombproof. I have had my current double 8.6's for a season and a half of alpine routes up in the Park(twice a week at least during the summer)and in the Winds, as well as ice climbing. The sheath is in perfect shape. Overall, one of the best ropes I have ever owned. The only consideration I might give to another rope would be an even lighter single pick sheath rope like the Beal Ice Line possibly.

Mammut, did not like their double ropes as much...great single ropes though

I disagree with the comment above. I own the 60m DRY version of these ropes, and I have taken these ropes on many alpine, ice and rockclimbing trips. My current set is almost 2 years old and still going strong. I highly recommend this rope.

I will not buy another blue water after owning this rope. Granted I am hard on my ropes but the sheath wore out very quickly. The cheaper price is not worth it.
