Lotus Designs Rio Grande PFDs

Lotus Designs Rio Grande PFDs

DESCRIPTION

The Rio Grande is the Rio Series design taken to the limits. Big pockets, lashtabs, adjustment points galore -- this vest is a gem. It's short-waisted and narrow-chested so it won't rub your sprayskirt or your chin.

I have used this PFD all on numerous trips, both for touring and white water. It has done a great job of meeting all of my needs. It has held up very well, even the zipper which I was concerned about. It is very comfortable, even for extended trips, and adjustable enough to wear over a wet suit or paddling jacket with no issues.

First let me say that the that the quality of the Rio Grande is top notch. The problem I have with it is that it rides up while paddling. As do a lot of PDFs when worn by men with kind of a big stomach. There is too much padding in the top of the front of the PDF. It tends to rub your chin. There is a workaround of sorts that helps this. First; cross the two side straps. Second; loosen all the straps and don the PDF. Then start tightening the straps form the bottom to the top. You must do this each time you put the PDF on. Then again lose 10 of 15 pounds, go back to a Greenland low angle paddle style and that helps too. Would I buy another Rio Grande? No. Would I buy another style PDF made by Lotus? Yes, I would.

My wife and I both have Lotus Design "Rio Grande" PFDs. We have found them to be all they claim to be: very adjustable, large easy access pockets, convenient "D" rings in both pockets, handy knife/whistle clip and most importantly very comfortable to wear for extended runs down the river. Once adjusted we actually forget we're wearing them! The temptation to take off an uncomfortable PFD has been thrown overboard once and for all with this great vest.

Great PFD! Really well made and extremely comfy. Works well for flat & whitewater canoeing. Pockets are just the right size for a clifbar and a rescue knife.

Excellent vest! Great fit on me. Very comfortable. After a while, you don't even notice it anymore. Very adjustable - especially important that it adjusts well at the shoulders. I hate it when the vest extends so far down your torso that it hits the cockpit coaming on your kayak - prevents good rolling technique. This one doesn't! Good pockets.
