As all Sherpa products tend to be these are excellent. Great grip provided by the agressive claws and lacing system and very durable. Binding system works well but I still prefer the symple lacing system used on Sherpas of old. Nothing is simpler or more reliable. Overall this shoe is best suited to the mountains, they are overkill on the flats.

i got these shoes same place, same price, as the last reviewer. however, im sending them back. its true that they have good flotation, but any shoe will if you have the right size. also, they have incredible grip. i love the feel of these guys goign up and downhill. you're not going anywhere. period.

unfortunately, im not impressed with the binding system. if you pull them on too tight, you lose foot circulation and get cold almost frostbitten feet. if you put them on less tight, two bad thigns would happen to me. first, snow would collect under my sole, but over the binding, and would make me slip around in the binding. also, the binding itself is not that sturdy even when done up tight, and i found myself wishing that i was locked into a less squirmy binding.

also, the cleats, in some snow, ball up like its goign out of style. at one point, i had lumps of snow under my feet extending 8" or so. i was walking, carrying all that snow attqached to my cleats, and punching holes in the powder as i went. inefficient, yes, and if you hit hard snow you'll roll your ankle. i dont know if other snowshoes do this as badly as the sherpas, but i do think that a less aggressive cleat would mean less balling.

decent deal at 135, not a good deal at full price. im sending mine back anyway, to trade for the MSR version.

This is the best snowshoe I've ever used. I have taken this over everything from a golf course to the summit of Mt Adams in NH. Great grip on steeps, great flotation. This shoe has outperformed every shoe that I've tried/seen. It is very well built. The Lotus comfort binding is great, with the only exception being that a ratchet version would be nicer. Only complaint - weight (5+lbs), but what should I expect for a mountaineering shoe? This puts it in the same class as the Atlas 1233 and Tubbs Mountain, which I've used. I like this one better.
