Patagonia Lightweight Capilene Zip-T First Layer Tops

Patagonia Lightweight Capilene Zip-T First Layer Tops

DESCRIPTION

Good for activities with a rigorous heat-up/cool-down cycle (track skiing, snowshoeing, trail running). Lightweight Capilene transports moisture away from the skin in any weather.

This is the piece that I wear the most. Great as a base layer, but most often on its own. I really tend to heat up when I'm active so I'm more comfortable in the lightweight than the midweight. Love the high collar for warmth and sun protection. A few minutes in the sun will dry this top right out. I'm considering buying a 2nd one in white for warmer days1

I was not all that impressed with this piece of clothing. I didnt have any problems with it proforming as promised, except that the zipper pouched out at the bottom, which eventually got on my nerves.

Truthfully I just didn't see much use for it. It didn't make a dramatic difference in my comfort or temperature during a summer 3-week trip in the Colorado Rockies. I tried layering it, but always ended up taking it off. Even when I use it for jogging, it isn't nessisary. I could almost get the same proformance from a simple cotton longsleeve T .

Bottom Line: If you seriously think that your life will be better because you feel drier when you jog, then spending $40 on this shirt is right up your alley.
If you aren't really adament on having the top-of-the-line gear, and you don't have a fetish for synthetic-everything, then save your cash for other stuff. Buy extra Clif bars or something.

i recently bought the lightweight zip t and love it. quality construction worth the price. the only thing i have a problem with are the wrist cuffs. the thread used does not stretch, which makes it hard to push your sleeves up when it gets warm. this may be a problem since i bought the shirt for all year backpacking. but all in all, i have been pleased so far.

Customer Service

have a friend who complained about some of her underwear "piling". patagonia said to send it in and they would replace it. as with any company truly interested in quality, they apparently stand behind their products.

Lightweight capilene is the perfect base layer. It's light enough to go under anything. Yet it's heavy enough to wear as a primary insulating layer when one is on the move. And, of course, it's capilene, which is still the best of the wicking fabrics. The cuffs are long and tight, so you get full coverage without the shirt getting in the way. I like the versatility of the zip-T. I generally wear my collar high, but I like to be able to unzip it to easily stuff a balaclava under it.
