Marmot Womens Thunderlight Jacket Shell Jackets

DESCRIPTION

Especially tailored for women, the Women's Thunderlight was developed for mountaineers and randonnee skiers who travel ultra light, scrutinizing every ounce. It's the best-selling women's lightweight jacket. Bad-weather protection in a very small little package.

I also have the men's Thunderlight. I love it. Excellent quality jacket. It is a bit pricey, but I managed to pick mine up on sale for about $120 off retail. My only complaint is the hood. It ssems to be too big and floppy and even when you pull in the drawstring, it still is hard to see out of it. The bill on the hood is not stiff enough either so it flops in front of your eyes. Other than that it performs as you would expect from a Marmot garment.

I have an old North Face Goretex jacket (lighter than the Thunderlight) that is not produced any more. I actually like it better than the Marmot, but save it for backpacking because it is so light.

I have a men's Marmot Thunderlight, and it has by far been the worst jacket that I own. I have had leakage problems with it twice both due to a broken membrame. The thunderlight does proform like a four hundred dollar jacket. I have a Sequel Twilight that way out proforms the Marmot Thunderlight and seems to be made with a considerable amount more quality. The most annoying factor of it is the hood which is not deteachable and the semi-elastic cuffs.

Customer Service

The first time that I sent in my Thunderlight I was told they were going to replace it but they ended-up only replacing the arm. Moreover, I was charged with the shipping and handling on the repair.

ThunderLight JKT.
Did not find a Mens review for this so I will post for a Mens JKT. I had a very old Marmot All Weather Parka when they were a small shop in CO. It temporarily blew out and Marmot sent me a (yellow and red rescue model) Thunderlight as a loaner. I hiked most of the AT in this, finishing late Winter. SO, I literally lived in it. It is a performer. Saved my skin a few times. I gave it back when I finished and went out and bought one(on sale of course), later bought one for my son and recently bought one for my daughter, too(as with all Marmot gear, it is expensive, so you have to wait for the sales). Great JKT. Quality, durability, lightweight, and performance.

Customer Service

I expected snobs, you know the "Marmot name thing", not there, great people, professional, customer oriented. I like the fact that the logo is the same color as the background and blends in so you don't notice it. Keeps advertising down, keeps you from looking like a billboard.

I have 3 words for a jacket this good. "I'm not worthy". It saved my life when I became standed on a ledge after a freak accident late one evening. Had to batten down all the hatches on this gortex wonder and huddle in freezing temps, sleet and wind untill help arrived the next day. I'm embarresed about the accident, but no longer so for paying the big bucks for the shell.

Customer Service

I also slept to close to a fire one night trying to keep warm. My arm got too close and I burned a hole in the shell. The burned panel got replaced for a reasonable amount and the customer service at Marmot was the greatest, or at least they didn't make fun of me. You got to love these guys out there in Santa Rosa, Caif.

Excellent choice for those looking for an ultralight shell. Durability was a concern when making this purchase. It's not an issue. Even though it's 3 layer GoreTex, it's not too loud and stiff. Longer length allows me to wear my harness over my shell allowing me to access gear without problems. This item does not feature a powder skirt, but for ice climbing, this is what I prefer. It does feature, however, a drawcord waist and hem, which does an adequate job of sealing out snow. I found it difficult to find a a 3 layer shell that met my weight criteria that still felt substantial to the touch. I also needed it to fit well and I wasn't willing to pay full retail. (which automatically excluded Mountain Hardwear's Ethereal FTX as they don't seem to go on sale) The FTX was the only real contender, however it didn't fit as well as the Thunderlight.

Customer Service

Excellent customer service, competent, friendly, and informed.

Marmot Alpinist "Lightweight" jkt, nothing light about the weight. Not sure what kind of dope they're on up in Berkley, this jkt is actually an ounce heavier than the Alpinist Climbing III. It is supple though, being 2/3 layer. Probably fine where weight isn't a concern.
