Mountain Hardwear Ethereal FTX Ultra Jacket Shell Jackets

Mountain Hardwear Ethereal FTX Ultra Jacket Shell Jackets

DESCRIPTION

The new hip-length FTX Ultra is our top-of-the-line breathable, wind- and waterproof jacket for technical mountaineers, climbers, and extreme skiers. Its key attribute is durability: the entire thing is made of FTX Ultra - the most tear- and abrasion-resistant 3-layer Gore-Tex laminate on the market. It's also amazingly soft and quiet for its strength. Pit zips extend from elbow to waist; their Simplex construction eliminates the need for bulky overflaps. Chest pockets (placed high) won't interfere with packbelt or harness, and when you can't take the jacket off, you can still access its interior via zippers behind the chest pockets. There are also two Napoleon pockets behind the front zipper flap. An interior powder skirt seals out spindrift. The hood (which rolls to form a collar) won't impede peripheral vision, and it can be adjusted to fit a climbing helmet.

Mountaineer

I am not really a mountaineer but an alpine skier who loves to be out when it's "vampire" nasty outside--no sun, high winds and high precip. I recently wore this on a ski trip to Utah and saw all conditions. Skiied varied conditions and terrain and "rode sag" for a bunch of kids carrying equipment and 2 Nalgene 1 liter bottles. The ultra performed beautifully and was extremely comfortable. Since I am an alpine skier I am concerned about vanity--this thing looks great!!

Customer Service

No other experience with Mountain Hardwear except that I also bought one of their windstopper vests which is designed beautifully and works great ( I have similar products from REI and Marmot).

Similar Products Used:

I have owned several of Marmot's Gore Tex shell parkas including a circa 1995 Alpinist Jacket--a formidable jacket which has held up to all the rigors that a cold nasty day on the slopes will throw out including torrential rains (like having a fire hose turned on). I'd rate the FTX Ultra just as high (though I've not had in the rain) and the fabric (FTX), fit and design with regards to pockets, etc I would put ahead of Marmot. High praise indeed.
