Mountain Hardwear FTX Mithril Parka - Men's Shell Jackets

DESCRIPTION

This parka will serve you well in the most ambitious undertakings; bagging a high peak, extended bouts of ski mountaineering or a difficult ice climb.. Gore-Tex® XCR™ construction offers the ultimate in breathable/waterproof protection, comfort and performance. XCR membrane is 50% more breathable than classic Gore-Tex, but is just as lightweight, waterproof and rugged. Ethereal ripstop nylon shell is reinforced with waterproof, breathable FTX Ultra in critical spots for superb durability under harsh conditions. Extra-long, low-bulk, waterproof pit zippers allow easy venting. Articulated sleeves for maximum freedom of motion. Chest-high front pockets and Napolean pocket have waterproof zippers; interior mesh water bottle pocket and security pocket. Ergonomic, roll-away hood enhances protection and comfort; fleece-lined chin guard protects against zipper abrasion. One-handed hood, waist and hem drawcords for a comfortable, snug fit. Reinforced, seamless hip and waist construction provides long-wearing durability. Two-way front zipper with guttered inner flap to keep out wind and water. Technical, trim cut and a shortened length make this an ideal parka for accessing a seat harness.

This is a well-engineered, well made shell. The DWR finish is better than on my previous shell and the jacket has both more, and more sensibly placed, pockets and cubbies to stash gear. It has kept me bone dry on several ocassions even during a prolonged strong downpour. I can't vouch for long-term durability, but after more than one year of fairly constant use it is holding up well. The only weakness--or minor complaint--is with the main zipper, which sometimes stubbornly refuses to engage. Like a previous reviwer, I'd be hard pressed to recommend a MSRP $400+ shell, but at 40% off, it's a bargain

I have no experience, but the reviews on this website look positive.

I purchased this for a NOLS semester in Alaska which I have scheduled for the summer. I got the jacket this winter in order to put it through some tests before I depend on it daily. I've made an effort to abuse it a bit in order to insure its up to grade. Can't complain, didn't pay much for it, it works as advertised, the hood works very well and the pit zips are nice and big. XCR is better than regular GTex but if you sweat like I do you produce more moisture from inside than out. All in all a great purchase, I spent two days in NH backpacking in constant rain, this kept me dry. Additionally, it looks good on the streets in Boston and functions well in the hills. Not sure if I'd pay $440 for any jacket but this can be found at a better price. A zipper for an inside liner is the only upgrade I'd add.

Customer Service

No experience with them but their reputation makes me confident that they'll be there if I need them.

The design is just great with 2 inside pocket, an exterior (hidden) pocket, etc. Verry sleek and plain undestructible construction. Why the poor rating ? I've had two of those, and they both held water at the surface layer (instead of pearling away). I'm now waiting for my third garment (second replacement). Granted it's probably Gore's fault, but Mountain Hardwear either have a verry bad quality assurance dep. or they just don't have any! So beware if you plan on buying any of their XCR based products.

Customer Service

Takes 2-3 weeks to get a replacement jacket. I guess that's fair.

Best jacket ever! very light and very strong. Been trekking and climbing with it through Nepal. Temperatures ranging from +25 to -20 degrees celsius. even with strenuous excercise at 6000 meters it kept me dry and sheltered me from rain and snow. Strange colour though, blue seems rather purple.

Excellent jacket. I''ve gone hiking in everything from nice sunny days to terential downpours to white conditions. This jacket walked away screaming for more. It''s very lightweight and packable. Lots of pocket space. I only have one complaint about this jacket. There''s no internal zippers for adding a lining. This is the best jacket I''ve ever owned.
