This coat was great for the firs month I had it than it started to go down hill. the gor-tex has begin to wear off due to the suckey two layer constructon. it's pretty wind proof though so I guess that's good. the zippers get stuck allot to.

One nice thing about buying a gore-tex
jacket is that it must pass gore's
testing as well as the manufacturer's.

The sad thing about TNF jackets is this
whole chest vent concept. I've seen this on Sierra design's outerwear for a few years and it seems to work somewhat.
The problem with the vents on this TNF
jacket is that these are'nt proper
vents. The only time they work for me
is when I'm running down-hill at terminal velocity! I've been told that the most difficult and expensive part to make on a gore-tex jacket are the pit-zips. It seems like TNF has found a way to cut costs while not lowering the cost of this mountain light jacket!

Nice, light shell that packs easy and doesnt cook you to death in warm weather. The chest vents are much better than pit zips, and there is plenty of storage. Pop has a Mountain jacket, which is a bit heavier (warmer), but I think I like the Light better, as I can layer under it if I want more warmth. Bombproof construction, and it fits great.

Customer Service

Ive never needed TNF's customer service, but have always heard glowing reports about it.

The TNF Mountain lite shell has been all ive ever needed. Very packable! I got mine in '97 and have used it all over the White Mountains in N.H. Its easy to use and does the job, what else does one need.

The standard do-it-almost-all shell. Great waterproofness (although you should wash it regularly and replace the DWR) with decent ventilation (although I wouldn't recommend gore-tex in humid environs or high energy activities, use Activent). If you had this jacket for fall/winter/spring and Activent for summer/sports, you would be well-equipped in the shell department.

Customer Service

Decent customer service but prepare to wait a long time for your goods to get back.

I bought my first Mtn Light in '93 and it travelled the world with me: 32 Nat'l Parks, Boundary Waters, Mojave nat'l preserve, Europe, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Panataal, Japan, S.E. Asia and Summits of Shasta and Rainier. I wore this jacket everywear, to work and out in the evening. I found it to be very versitile i.e. I could wear it on the coldest dry and wet days or the hottest rainy days. The water repellent layer did wear off after 4 years and the jacket does feel thin(which is a good thing), but the material is very tough and never became damaged. To clean it was simple( throw in washing machine) and it always looked great. As for the pockets I liked them where they were b/c if I left them open they would not hang on brush or catch debris. I would still have it today, but I packed it in my bags and the airline lost them. Make sure you try it on first, the sizing is a bit unusual.

Customer Service

Customer servie is outstanding! I hasd a button come off and I sent it in they fixed it and overnighted it back to me. I also sent it in to had the repellent layer reapplied and they fixed it and overnighted it back to me.

This jacket has withstood the abuse I have put it through on many rugged terrains, including Mt. Shasta. The only problems I have is the front zipper is hard to close and the length of the jacket, when fully zipped, is too long, and I always have to tuck it under. It's a great jacket but the price was a little steep for me, until I heard of the outlets.

Customer Service

Good service but a little slow in the warranty department.

This jacket is a sweet one to have. I"ve had it for 6 months. Done basically everthing in it to Icecaving to biking to Snowboarding in it every Wednesday. Although i did get a slight tear in from sliding on my back size of a dime ice caving getting through tight spots. The ripstop fabric is good in that point but the material is just a little weak in that area i thought. As for breathability and performance in the cold here in Rexburg its a winner. I would be whining this winter if i did have it like i have done in past in these cold winters here. My best buy this last year by far for outerwear!

Customer Service

I have already lined up to send it back to North Face for repair as soon as my winter ends. They are great about it too.

The North Face line of outer and inner wear is great! It has all kept this normally cold person by nature very warm. The Classic Mountain Light Jacket with its down jacket and ski pants are all I need in even the most cold weather. It gives me the confidence to go outside without worry of getting cold. Plus their dry wick stuff is great for keeping me from freezing off of my own sweat.

Customer Service

The customer service is great. My boyfried took his jacket in to have the zipper resewn. Not a problem. His 10 year old jacket looks as good as my 2 year jacket.

I have owned and used North Face equipment for about 25 years. Tents, packs, down jackets and vests, all subjected to serious alpine enviornments. This jacket is light weight and packs into a small space. The pockets, vents and zippers work well with a pack. Although it is reinforced in critical areas durrability is a question yet to be resolved.

Customer Service

North Face customer service has been heplful and responded in a timely manner. They have honored their warrenty when necessary. Their repares have restored products to like-new condition.
