Mountain Hardwear Exposure Pant Shell Pants

Mountain Hardwear Exposure Pant Shell Pants

DESCRIPTION

The Exposure Pant offers unmatched mobility in an exceptionally durable package. Three-piece knees (both the lining and shell are articulated) allow for unimpeded movement. Seat and knees have abrasion-resistant polyester reinforcements, while Ballistics edge guards protect the inner cuffs from ski edges and crampons. Two-way fully separating Simplex side zips are waterproof without the bulk of double overflaps. They provide maximum ventilation and easy layer changes. Double Velcro® waist flaps attach on the inside and the outside of the waistband, increasing the strength of the closure - very important when you open the side zips for ventilation.

After a bad experience with previous no-name pants, decided to spend the money to keep my backside dry. These pants have proven to be winners. They keep me equally comfortable on 60 degree days as on
0 degree days, whether the weather is wet, dry, or even if I'm sitting around in the snow. The suspender connections that allow the seat to drop -without removing the pant - are very convenient. This feature is both easier to use and more waterproof than having an additional zipper in the seat. This pant is worth the money.

Used the exposure pant on my first ice climbing trip in the Catskills. With only lightweight LIFA underneath, I was completely comfortable the entire trip, despite zero temperatures in the morning and mild temperatures in the afternoon creating wet conditions. Highly recommend and well worth the price.

I bought these pants as they appeared to have the best fit and design features. On my first use in snow, the pants failed to keep me dry as the seams in the seat leaked like a sib when sitting on snow covered or marginally wet ski lifts. What a huge dissapointment. My wife's much less expensive Cabela gortex bibs kept her totally dry, while my pants which cost 3X left me with drenched underwear. My son's non gortex bibs which cost 40 dollars kept him dry as well.

I have since exchanged the pants for a new replacement pair (good dealer customer service at Any Mountain). this time, I'm not going to wait for snow to test them out, i'm going to test them at home. The new pair however has a problem with the zippers on the pants legs. Seems they were sewn in a way that the zipper keeps binding the material when your trying to zip them up. What a pain!

I may be returning these as well for that problem. For 320 dollars, I'd try someone elses gortex pants

I use these pants mostly for skiing and snowboarding and they are bomber. Totally waterproof, very warm and fine construction quality. I would highly recommend these to mountaineers who are tough on gear. They should last as long or longer than anything else on the market. Hint: If you like 3 layer Gore better, check out the FTX Ultra. They look like they are made out of even heavier material.
