I bought the Grade 5 pants for summer/fastpacking/AT section hiking. In this respect they perform excellent. They are fullzip, which allows you to vent (which you`ll do alot of), and this also allows you to take thenm off over those full size hiking boots. I also have the Mtn Hrdwr Torrent pants which I used one time, as they are non-ventable, which makes them useless for backpacking. I carry these during the summer when before I left my Waterproof breathables at home. Used correctly, these pants perform very well. I weighed them on my scale, and they weighted true to the claimed wt. of 8.5 oz. Good light minimalist pants. Jeff
