OK look. I've got big feet, ok? They severely limit what I can buy. These were on sale at EMS for $100 in my size 14, and whenever I see shoes in my size, I buy.

I've had good luck with these guys, putting on about 15 off-road running miles a week. They have a super durable sole (reminds me of a tire) that is showing virtually no wear after about 6 months of heavy running. I go 6' 3" and 200 lbs, so usually am death on shoes, but these have held up very well. Also, they have excellent lateraly stability. I find that with regular running shoes, the uneven ground on trails quickly wears your feet out, so the lateral stability in the SR IIs is a plus. ANother feature I feel compelled to mention is the protective toe rand. It's a durable material, and has saved a lot of abuse in this high wear area. It's not Kevlar (or they would advertise it as such), but it seems real close to me.

In summary, I'm really happy with these, my first pair of real trail running shoes. THey've proven themselves capable off road, have great wear characteristics, and are light, to boot. If you care, I feel they are very attractive as well, with none of the obscene neon color schemes that seem to "decorate" some other shoes these days.

The only drawback is that they're slightly pricy, and may be hard to find.

EMS is a close runner up to LL Bean in my mind. You'll leave happy at the end of the day. Never had a problem with my SR IIs, though.
