Volkl Vertigo G4 All Mountain

Volkl Vertigo G4 All Mountain

DESCRIPTION

Featuring a wider profile, these all-condition skis are for advanced skiers looking for outstanding performance in deep powder.. Sensorwood core provides responsive and powerful turning and torsional rigidity. 3D Sidecut technology creates tip-to-tail contact the moment the ski is tipped on edge, resulting in even pressure over the length of the edge.

Strength:

Fast, Fast, Fast! They will go through crud and powder like it's not even there. I'm 5'11' 210 pounds and have found I can never over power these skis. If you get tired put them away, they will bite you if you lean back.

Weakness:

Quick turns, bumps, and trying to go slow enough for anyone to keep up.

If you want an all mountain ski and don't want to work at it, avoid these. These are tough to ski but they pay off big dividends if you put in the effort.

Strength:

Stability at speed. Tasteful dark color. That cool Volkl sound. They are like having a built in ski lesson. When your technique is good they are amazing. If you are not on top of them they remind you right away.

Weakness:

Lack of forgiveness can jar you a bit in the bumps.

A quick stable ski. While it will not forgive mistakes, it does thoroughly reward good technique. The faster you go and the harder you push it the happier the ski and the skier. Excellent off-piste and on the groomers. I even had a good time doing some GS gates with these. If you ski agressively and in control these are ideal skis to be on.

first off volkl doesnt authorize online retail so u gotta call. these are the 2003 model anyways, im 5'9" 145lbs and i have the 179cm ski. this is an awesome ski. i live in ny and frequently ski jay peak vt, its only and hour from college. I have found these skis to be amazing in powder (of course) but suprisingling great on ice and stuff. they hold an edge like my buddys v3 carvers. they bust through crud and ice chucks like a hot knife through butter. ive heard people say you need solid technique to get the most out of these skis and i agree with them, but dont let that alone drive you away from these skis, they will teach you how to ski better because when ur in the sweet spot, low and forward, these skis ride like there's no tommorow. i have the rossi axial 120 on them and it is an awesome setup. also they sound awesome like they are hollow when ur riding on hardpack these skis are very nimble and agile, its a great ski, everything i was looking for in an all around ski

Customer Service

The first day I skied the 2003 Volkl G4 was at Sun Valley after 19 inches of new on Dec 28th. Heavy wet slop. I mean heavy. Sun Valley prides its self on grooming, but they really could not handle the 19 inch dump very well. Few people survived the mountain that day. However, the G4's smoked through everything. Nothing deep, heavy, or cut up will stop them. My buddies had to even avoid skiing the heaviest stuff on the sides of the runs that day. But I had no problem. I bought the 178CM and they are very fast sliders. I basically pass everyone on the cat tracks. However, when you find some firm groom runs the G4's require work and you work hard to keep the speed down. They are not effortless on firm snow. Even though they are fast I would think the next length longer (or another ski all together) could be a better all around ski or if you ski a Sun Valley type resort mostly. I'm 5'11' and 165lbs. The three days of ripping around on them at Sun Valley was great...but in the end I was missing my easy cruising XScreams. Then on the forth day of skiing my G4's I hit our local area called Bogus Basin. Bogus was deep with snow from the last week of record dumps...plus I had the bonus of 14 inches of fresh. I skied 12 runs of virtually untracked heavy wet powder. The G4's were toasting everyone. Speedy and staying on top. Incredible! What a powder ski. So much fun! The stiff frame just lets you rip. However, I feel a guy still needs his P50's or XScreams to really enjoy fast cruising the firm grooms. Glad I bought the ski for big snow days. I even had a couple of ski darlins asking me about them "cool skis". G4's are certainly a good looking ski...or maybe it just me on them???? I mounted my G4's with red and black S810 titanium Salomon bindings. The G4's with these bindings are very light weight...maybe that is why on firm groomers I miss my heavy Xscreams.

Great Ski shop. Plus they threw in a tune card and the needed extra wide ski brakes.

Simply the best strong all mountain ski around, If you've mainly skied stiffer race style skis in the past and find modern free-ride skis a bit wimpy in the flex department then the g4's will be the ski for you. They require strength and technique but will reward the hard work in all conditions and preferably at speed.

The BEST Ski Ever Made! Period! I have been a Volkl fan for years now, but I was absolutely amazed by the strength and quickness of this ski. I am a Ski Instructor here in Utah, and I attest to the toughness of this ski...on piste and off. Floats in Wasatch pow like a champ, and carves the courds like a beast. Requires aggressive skiing, but responds beautifully. Tough bases can be pummeled by rock after rock. Handles transition from variable snow conditions flawlessly...busts through anything you can throw at it. Edges hold on ice like a pit-bull to a new york strip... even after a seasons worth of de-tuning. Simply amazing. If you are an agressive skier, and want an all mountain ski that does it all, inbounds and out....the G4 is where it is at

BEST SKI I"VE EVER RIDIN'. In pow, chowder, slop, bumps, trees, you name it. They are the most stable skis I've been on. Many have attempted this level of quality, but few have succeeded.
