Salomon Skiing Xwave 9.0 - Men's Mens

Salomon Skiing Xwave 9.0 - Men's Mens

DESCRIPTION

Built for the freeride, these boots cater to the demands of advanced skiers seeking comfort and precision control.. Advanced chassis technology reduces weight and reinforces energy transmission for precise steering. Raised foot position increases power by maximizing edge angle. Carbon arms reinforce the rear support without stiffening the flex, while adjustable rear spoilers allow you to customize the cuff height. Bi-material cuffs use softer materials over the instep and at the front of the cuff to provide excellent foot envelopment and a progressive flex. Stiff lateral inserts in the cuffs improve transmission of energy allowing the softer cuff to be comfortable and effective. Custom insoles provide personalized fit ensuring all-day comfort and soft polyurethane footboards help absorb shock to cushion big landings. Adjustable buckle-teeth and a 3D buckle over the instep allow you to customize the fit for additional comfort and performance.

I had been skiing in a pair of Technicas that I had bought for $75 when I got my first pair of skis. They felt like medieval torture devices. I had been shopping for a new pair of boots, and had decided that if/when I bought one I would get the Salomon Xwave 9s. I broke my leg skiing that year, and so I didn't think about new boots for a while. About 2 yrs. later, I had started skiing again. One night I was over at a girl's house that I was dating and I spotted a pair of ski boots in the back corner of her garage. I picked them up to look at them and was astounded to see that they were the exact model that I had so desired. She said that her ex had left them there when they broke up and that I could have them if they fit. I asked what size they were and she said 12. I'm a 10. I tried them on anyway and - BOOM! - they were a perfect fit! She gave them to me!
That being said, they are everything I had thought that they would be when I was shopping. They are incredibly comfortable. From the first time I put them on they were more comfortable than the Technicas that I had been wearing for 4 years. I still haven't had them heat moulded, although I probably will. I suspect they will be more comfortable than my bedroom slippers once that I do. The stiffness and transmission of movement to the ski is perfect for my ability level, which is probably upper intermediate. They appear to be extremely durable. I am a 41 year old skier and expect these boots to see me through the end of my skiing career. Highly recommended.

Well, I was at Deseret Industries (Sort of like a thrift store), and I saw these boots. I wasn't a skier at the time, but they fit perfect, I could tell they were nice, and they were only 6 bucks. So, when I started skiing, I loved them, and I still do! They're just great!

Strength:

responsiveness, customised for no extra cost when returned to sjop.

Weakness:

produced painfully sore calf muscles until customised.

Bought these last season but had many problems with strained and cramping calf muscles when out skiing in them. Had no problems in the past with ski boots. After 3 separate trips back to the shop to get footbeds inserted and the heels raised they are now very comfortable and extremely responsive.

Strength:

Comfort, control, looks.

Weakness:

Look a bit shoddy if they get too scuffed.

The fit on these boots is superb. The heat moulding takes twenty minutes and the comfort level once I put a footbed into them was fantastic. The clips dont need to be fastened too hard as the pading holds the foot so well so there's no risk of stopping the circulation in your feet. There's also a micro adjustment on the ankle buckle for those that think they need it.

Comfort, stiffness, adjustability.

Insulation.

On my first trip with these boots, I spent the first three days working out the proper buckle adjustments. That’s a really critical process with these boots. Once I found the right settings (on the fourth day), they were as close to actually being comfortable as a ski boot can get. I found that the buckles did not need to be torqued down at all - the natural fit of the boot made it snug all around without me having to use the buckles to pull them tight. In fact, if anything, the custom form fitting of these boots discourages you from cranking the buckles down, because it puts too much pressure on your foot - there''s simply not that much play inside the boot. My feet are wide in the toes, and I have a slightly high arch. That has always been a problem for me in ski boots. But Salomon boots have a nice wide toe box, and this particular pair has enough fine adjustment ability to get a comfortable fit, even over the tops of my feet where I usually have problems. The boots are nice and stiff, so they give you good response and control of the skis. On really cold days, I could do with a little more insulation than these boots provide, but it is at least adequate.
