Mountain Hardwear Gore WindStopper Tech Jacket Fleece Tops

Mountain Hardwear Gore WindStopper Tech Jacket Fleece Tops

DESCRIPTION

Polyester reinforcements at the shoulders and neck resist pack-strap abrasion; along the arms they protect against the grind of rock and ice. Extra-long pit zips (backed by an inner flap) align with those in our shells for effective venting; the front zipper has a no-snag draft flap. Articulated elbows assure unrestricted freedom of movement. Two generous chest pockets and two zippered security pockets (one in, one out) provide convenient storage. Comfortable Power Stretch cuffs will not absorb moisture.

Fantastic! 5 Degrees with only an acrylic base layer - still toasty! This jacket is worth every red cent. I put off owning one for far too long. With the deals that i see some of the other reviewers getting, you have GOT to get one. Very durable exterior - mine is mostly worn as a shell when there is little to no precipitation. "Clean" interior - nothing to get hung up on when getting in and out. Well built. Singular Suggestion to MH: could use adjustable cuffs. wearing gloves w/o gauntlets can leave wrists unprotected.

Customer Service

so far, no need - product is w/o flaws

I just wanted to add a few things to what has already been said: -WOMEN: I nearly bought a women's version, but luckily I tried them on first. After trying on several sizes, I found out that the sleeves run short. I was suprised because I'm average height (5'4), but I'm very happy with my men's size S. I probably have a tad bit more lateral room than I need, but extra range of motion is never a bad thing and the fit still looks good. -The front pockets are located strategically high to remain accessible while wearing a pack. They're also fleecy on one side so if I'm not wearing gloves I can warm my cold hands. Good job, MHW -I love the collar, which is higher than my old fleece. It goes all the way up to my chin when zipped. Other than that, everything positive everyone else said is true. I wear this jacket every day. The workmanship is impeccable. I normally wouldn't spend this much on a fleece, but I'd probably buy it again for full price. When I go snowboarding I will laugh at the wind because I know this jacket will not disappoint.

MEC fleece--very minimalist, but had pit zips. I wanted another jacket with that feature after that. The Windstopper Tech Jacket is like the Caddy of fleece jackets, except not excessive in any way.

I was looking for a durable, quality fleece for an AT thru-hike. TNF products seem to be going down the tubes these days... so after reading all great reviews here, I'm really happy with this MtHW jacket. Unlike the Denali and others, it blocks wind, comfy, bombproof construction, and even my Dad said it looks great! What else can be said? Yeah, it's expensive, but worth it. Get it on sale. 5-stars for Mt Hardware!

Customer Service

No need. Mt Hardware products are mint! I wish I bought a MtHW shell to go with this.

I wore this jacket every day, all day for 3-months during a cycling and backpacking tour through New Zealand. Everything has been said about the qualities of the jacket when backpacking but it was also great for touring with the bike. Even after wearing it The only limitations I encountered were: - it gets cold when the weather is wet (drizzle is OK) - when biking downhill at high speeds some wind comes down the collar which is a little wide for my liking (having a collar size of 39) - when heavily sweating on the bike the jacket became wet (see point 1) and it takes a couple of hours to dry it (but then why wear a jacket at all when sweating ?) At USD300 the jacket is very expensive but still worth it if you are in need of a durable (the jacket is like new after these 3 months) and versatile fleece jacket.

This is the single most impressive "fleece" medium weight jacket that I've owned. I was a bit skeptical at first because the piece is so light weight, and I wasn't sure if this "windstopper" marketing technology was entirely accurate. Besides being a an avid backpacker and outdoors nut, I'm a motorcyclist so I decided to put the jacket to the test. Utterly amazing... At 110mph I literally could feel no wind entering the jacket whatsoever. Not even through the zipper, thanks to the longer than standard zip baffles. All my other fleece jackets become utterly useless in high winds. I was sold at that point, and have been happy with it in a wide range of conditions so far. Great purchase. The only minor inconvenience is perhaps one of it's strengths... The zip baffles do an amazing job of keeping wind out of zippers, but the stiffness of the material make keeping the collar down, (on days when you don't need the full collar) a minor annoyance. Also, like so many of these products, it's my opinion that they are severly overpriced, regardless of how well they function.

I've had the jacket nearly a month now. The list price over $200 scared me, when I found it under that it was much better. Immediately found it to be very light weight, to the point where I was concerned about how well it would keep me warm. Really liked how this jacket claimed to block the wind, most fleece jackets are useless in Wisconsin winters. Winter hit shortly after the jacket arrived, and this is the only jacket I've worn, even in single digit temperatures. It does an incredible job of keeping me warm, and blocks the wind as well as shells do. Fit is a bit tight from what I'm used to, comparable to a bulky sweatshirt, and I've come to like the fit. Can't possibly say enough good things about it, it has far exceeded my expectations. The list price of $215 for this jacket still makes it well worth the price. You can never go wrong with anything from Mountain Hardwear.

Awesome jacket, pit zips are longer than other jackets I own and really assist in venting. The material has taken a lot of use and shows no abuse. The WindStopper feature makes this an awesome insulater keeping all drafts at bay. Workmanship quality is excellent and true to form of all Moutain Hardware products I own and makes me glad I got this jacket every time I use it. I gave the value rating a 5 along with overall because even though I saved huge on my purchase I would by again at regular price since it's such a versatile and highly used piece of gear.

Customer Service

Haven't had to call 'em on anything yet since owning they're products for about 3 years.

Aweseome Jacket. I''ve worn it from Everest Base Camp to the London Streets and it''s flaweless. Stops wind dead, and keeps you so warm. Stitching a bit shoddy on the zip-pulls but apart from that it''s a top jacket. Very light too.

Evrything is excellent. Look on Ebay for a good deal. Lots of people are selling them brand new for very cheap. The value rating is goven based on the $190 that i got it for.
