i don't know why they changed the fabric... i have an older version and it is absolutely great. the new version uses some softer but less durable fabric... the older version is a lot better and used the scholler dryskin fabric. the new material tends to pill and fray. (I have a pair of talus pants that i have owned for just a couple of months and wearing cordura against it makes it pill and fray). Patagonia, go back to using schoeller in your talus stuff.... if i were looking at this shirt as a wind blocking layer, i would recommend the cloudveil serendipity jacket or one of the arcteryx powershield tops/jackets.
