The North Face Salathe Jacket Fleece Tops

The North Face Salathe Jacket Fleece Tops

DESCRIPTION

Designed to be worn for fast, alpine-style ascents where a high warmth-to-weight ratio is critical, the Salathe Jacket is perfect for every activity from cold high endurance to spring skiing. Made from versatile and durable Polartec 100 Microfleece, the Salathe offers a clean design with two handwarmer pockets and little else to add weight or bulk. Because of it's lightweight nature, the Salathe is also a great choice for backpacking or just sitting on the porch on a cool summer's night.

Ever find that you always have to take on and off your fleece sweater during a hike because you're either too hot and sweaty or cold? Well, this polartec-100 weight fleece jacket offers the perfect amount of insulation and breathability for 80% of the year. Great for cool summer nights or being active in the winter. There is also additional nylon fabric around the fitted high-cut collar so you can cut out the draft to your neck (Important if you're wearing an outer shell and its neck diameter is large). However, the fabric isn't a windstopper (which is what makes it so breathable) and I wash it pretty frequently because either it traps b.o. or I wear it so often that needs to be washed all the time (but the key thing is that it doesn't have a million pockets or extra abrasion protection fabric on it so it dries quickly). Over my three years with this jacket, it is still worn more frequently than my Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Tech or Marmot Driclime Arrow Windshirt. Can't find much fault with such a simple design.

This is a warm jacket that's well worth the money. It stays incredibly warm when wet and is relatively durable. I would suggest a TNF fleece jacket with a little more warmth (Polartech 200) if you plan on spending time at altitude during the winter.
