Summary:
THE classic rucksack on the market! (Though I haven't owned/used any of the packs from Duluth Pack, I'm sure they're also right up there with Filson.)

Strengths:
The design, the overall "look" and Filson's 100% guarantee of quality. The PERFECT day, light travel, fishing, around town, etc., pack. It's almost embarassing to carry this pack if you're wearing any synthetic clothing!

Weaknesses:
The Break-in period? (But I suppose is a good thing in the long run.) I've found a great way to break-in Filson luggage: check it through on the airlines, preferably on connecting flights in snowy or wet weather! Those folks have NO mercy.
This pack is not the most intelligent choice for longer, more technical pursuits.

Customer Service:
Like Filson says, You might as well have the best! (And this was a killer deal off of eBay! The closest price on-line from other suppliers was $210.)

Similar Products Used:
An older, lighter-weight, cotton poplin one from Willis & Geiger. (Made in China; bought when Land's End owned W&G). Also have some typical technical packs, like MountainSmith.

Price Paid:  $0.00 at Filson in Seattle

Summary:
The cliche of backpacks. Spendy but worth every penny. Not exactly for technical ice climbing or such. But, instills some nolstalgia every time it's on the trail.
This becomes your pack for life. On campus, roadtrips, day crags, pubs, holiday shopping, it shines.

Strengths:
Materials and construction. Wears like iron. Just a great mix of natures ingredients: cotton, brass, and leather.

Weaknesses:
Needs to be broken in. Needs to gain character. Spilt beer or coffee seems to work. So does engine grease.

Customer Service:
Always easy to deal with the Filson store in Seattle.

Other misc. Filson luggage. All great.

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
This is the day pack that will last. Zipper will never fail, and it looks good too.

Strengths:
It is the best quality, and value that I know of.

Weaknesses:
Wish they made a slightly larger main compartment, and that they did not use brass plate for the zipper car, although it prevents the zipper from corroding shut.

Similar Products Used:
I have owned both the Dark Tan and Otter Green.
