Reviewed by: rwmetz ,  Skier

Price Paid:  $100.00 at Discount Fishing (De

Summary:
OK for a basic reel, but not the type I'll be handing down to my kids. Functional, but loud and kind of wobbly - just doesn't feel as nice and smooth as other entry-level $100 reels. Not sure it's any better than a basic $40 or $50 off-brand cast aluminum reel. I've fished with it for a few years now and plan to buy a "real reel" as a upgrade my 5wt rod.

I also have a G Loomis Venture reel that's same price point and has a MUCH nicer look and feel, smoother (and stronger) drag system. At $100,the Venture is probably one of the best values out there.

Price Paid:  $140.00 at Fly Fishing Unlimite

Body of Water:
Feather River

Favorite City:
Vacaville

Favorite State:
California

Favorite Country:
America

Summary:
The real I have is a newer style. It is for an eight weight. It isn't large arbor but I haven't had any fish run at me fast enough to spit out the hook.

Strengths:
It has a very smooth and reliable drag system. It has a life time warrantee. You can't beat it for the price. It has sealed bearings. When you reel it in it has a loud but smooth clicking noise (So when you are across the river from the bait fisherman they will hear you realing in your fish) I have landed many 20 pound and up salmon on this real. The biggest being a 30 plus male.

Weaknesses:
Can't think of any.

Customer Service:

Price Paid:  $100.00 at Deschutes River Outf

Body of Water:
Mac/Deschutes/Owyhee

Favorite City:
Eugene

Favorite State:
OR

Favorite Country:
USA

Summary:
I purchased this reel in 98 and it has functioned pretty well. The vast majority of the fishing I do is for trout and the drag has always performeed adequately. The reel has never completely failed me but has annoyed me at times.

Strengths:
Overall it the reel has done well...it is durable and has lasted fairly weel. I fish more than most people and it has managed to survive where other reels have kicked. There is no question that better reels exist but your going to pay a lot more.

Weaknesses:
The reel occasioally makes a squeaking sound when stripping line...it is annoying but has never caused the loss of a fish. The reel also developed a deep line groove where the line rubs on the body when stripping...this groove caused fly lines to wear out prematurely.

Customer Service:
Good they fixed the line groove no questions asked.

Reviewed by: Striperchaser ,  50+ days a year

Price Paid:  $80.00

Summary:
This reel is bombproof. I put my reels through a lot, and this reel has never let me down. Finally!: a reel that is actually built to last a lifetime! I have one #8 and am buying another for my guest outfit.

Strengths:
solid, strong, and with a smooth drag. Stops fish dead, and can take a beating on the streamside

Weaknesses:
I've noticed some reviews about the weight issue. come one folks! this reel is heavy because it is built to last. There are no weaknesses that I can find.

Customer Service:
