I have fished Ross reels for years from the UK Flywater to the Evolution and in my opinion the Cimarron is the best value for the quality and price of all. I have several C1s, C2s, and CLAs on 3-6 wt. rods; they are not as fine tuned as the Rhythm or Evolution , but they don't carry the higher price tag either. Its hard to go wrong with any Ross product. Customer Service:

For the last two years, I've had a C1 on my 3 wt rod. It and the rod form a perfectly balanced combination. The reel is an excellent reel for trout fishing, with a price that makes it even more attractive. The drag is extremely smooth as Ross drag systems typically seem to be. I'm about to buy another reel to match a different rod. I've looked at a lot of reels, supposedly without cost being a deciding factor. Because of the C1's performance, I can't come up with a better selection than another Cimarron in a size to match the rod! Strengths:
The drag is easy to set and very smooth. The reel is extremely light. The cost/performance ratio is unbeatable. It's a great looking reel also! Weaknesses:

The Ross Cimmaron is a good value in a machined, disc drag fly reel. I own both the C-1 and C-3, however I don't use them as much as I'd like, as spare spools are not available. It seems Ross introduced this reel in 1994. And, as of 1999, just 5 years after it's intoduction, the reel had seen so many major changes and revisions, (structurally, models, and cosmetically) that just getting a spare spool became an exercise in futility. In that short time span, the Cimarron went through 3 different spool changes, 3 different frames, changes in drag design, finish, cosmetics, and a change from 3 models, to 5 completely different models. When I called Ross about a spool for my C-1 I was basically told I was "S.O.L.", and I should scour the internet to find one. (I tried, no luck). In closing, while I find the Cimarron a good value for the money, I would be very wary of buying another Ross reel, due to the number of revisions that are made, and the incompatibility of models within the same line. (I've noticed similar revisions in the Gunnison line too.) Strengths:

Far and away the best reel value for the money. Very stable, tight mechanics, great drag, incredibly durable. Works great for big rivers and small streams. Spending any more for a reel is not necessary. Strengths:
