Price Paid:  $349.00 at Angler's Lane

Summary:
Absolutely the best vise being produced today. I tie production, as well as for pleasure and couldn't live without this vise. Rock solid construction. It is a well conceived tool. Everything locks down, so there's no readjusting handles, heads, and other parts every fifteen minutes. Worth every penny.

Customer Service:
Nice people. Prompt e-mail answers and courteous on the phone.

Price Paid:  $450.00 at Korsholm

Body of Water:
Karup Aa

Favorite City:
Vridsted

Favorite State:
Viborg Amt

Favorite Country:
Denmark

Summary:
A great rotary vise with an exceptional hook holding power on larger hooks. The grooved jaws lock forward, so hook-slippage is practically eliminated. The metalwork on the vise and the smooth rotation is eminent craftsmanship. With the barracuda you get a vise that’ll last you a lifetime, at least I hope it’ll, because in the two-three years I have been using it, I have become very fond of it! All this said you could get a vise that does most of the things that the barracuda does to a much lower price. But my experience is, that you’ll wear it up in a couple of years if you are an enthusiast that tie more then about 1000 flies a year. But if you only tie in the around 25 flies a year you might be better of spending your money on something else.

Strengths:
Exceptional hook holding power on large hooks (>10). The grooved jaws lock forward, so hook-slippage is practically eliminated. The metalwork on the vise and the smooth rotation is eminent craftsmanship and the heavy pedestal gives the vise a good steadiness.

Weaknesses:
The lack of a material clip is a noteworthy weakness if you are used to having one and having a kind of clip for the centering gauge on the vise would a nice thing too. A little too expensive, when you live in Europe, but very acceptable for american consumers!

Customer Service:
Have never needed it.

Reviewed by: Bob Lindquist ,  50+ days a year , from NY

Price Paid:  $0.00

Body of Water:
Shinnecock Bay, Delaware River

Summary:
Best valued flytying vise on the market and a must for saltwater and deer hair tyers.

Strengths:
Incomparable hook holding power for big hooks. Grooved jaws lock forward, so slippage nearly impossible. You never need to reset for the same size hook (unlike other vises), very smooth - but best of all - the design is such that you can rest your free hand on the vise and handle all the materials with no effort. This eliminate s subtle strains that add up during long tying sessions!

Weaknesses:
There are no weaknesses withink the design, but it would be nice if it had a speed crank.

Customer Service:
Top notch.

Reviewed by: Fyrestorm7 ,  40 days a year

Price Paid:  $329.00 at K&K Flyfishers

Body of Water:
North Fork of the White River

Favorite State:
Missouri

Summary:
This is a VERY GOOD vise. I own several, and I don't expect to ever replace this one. It will always be my "go to" vise.

Strengths:
Very Good for Streamers, Bass Bugs and other Large Hook Flys. Midge Jaws available, but I have tied down to a size 24 with the standard jaws.

Weaknesses:
There is a certain size hook that is sort of "in between" on this vise. For me, at about size 10, the standard jsws don't work very well. The tip of the vise is too weak for such a big hook, and the slot made for the larger flies is a bit too big. It tends to bend the hook when you use the slot, and the hook wants to come out when you don't. But, I emphasize, this is only for this specific size, and it will work. Just a bit of extra care is required.

Customer Service:
Never needed any service at all.
