at Kaufmann's Fly Shop Body of Water: Puget Sound Favorite City: Seattle Favorite State: WA Favorite Country: USA Summary: This is a nice little vise for a beginner. But as a great vise I would have to say, keep looking. Strengths: Price, and their name. Weaknesses: After 1 year of use, the jaws are not seating well, I have replaced the cam pin, as mine bent, and the base is not removable if you get the base model. Customer Service: Not used, but spare parts are easy to come by. Similar Products Used: Thomposon Model A, circa 1975.

at llbeans Body of Water: InUsa ...Mammoth spring creek, or Pointdexter creek Favorite City: St Helens Favorite State: TASMANIA Favorite Country: AUSTRALIA Summary: ANY VISE IS ONLY AS GOOD AS ITS JAWS.
These jaws hold anything and last a lifetime.pro 2 is simple no frills, and bullet proof. It may not have the engineering of the other glamour makes, but if you seriously tie a lot of flies of all types, then this vise will do the business. Strengths: Indusrtial type engineering Weaknesses: the collet(?)that surrounds the jaws from the stem, can become flared if the jaws are not adjusted correctly on the hook. ie ifvyou just put in a big hook and tighten down the lever. But this is your fault not the vises, andvlesser makes would explode.. Customer Service: Life time warranty ? Thompson have been around a long time, so they must do something right, despite tough competition, and blatent copies... Similar Products Used: Various, including Indian copies of the Thompson

, from Bogota, Colombia Summary: I have it as a backup vise. If you are familiarized with rotary vises, you will find hard to tie a fly on any non-rotary vise, as this one, but if you are habituated to tie flies on a non-rotary vise, this must be the election. Holds firmly hooks from 3/0 to 28, is very strong, and something let you know you are going to tie flies for a lifetime on it: It's quality.
I gave it 5 stars as a non-rotary vise, it is not comparable to a rotary vise. Strengths: Great holding power, your hook is never going to slip. Simplicity. Very good quality. Has prooven for many years, and it works. Price. Weaknesses: It is not a rotary vise. Similar Products Used: Orvis Baetis rotary. Regal Rotary.
