at Peak Fly Shop Summary: If you are a beginner and you are willing to pay the price, then this is the way to go. When buying at the fly shop, I found the cam lever much easier to operate than the locking mechanism on the Renzetti vises. Holds the hook in place almost too well (so strong, if not adjusted properly, it'll smash the hook bend, don't do this). As I said, this makes an excellent traveling vise. If you are NOT a traveler, buy the c-clamp version, and if you ARE a traveler, buy the pedastal version. Of course, you can always buy the pedastal version and later purchase the c-clamp base and the appropriate stem (the c-clamp stem is commonly longer than the pedastal stem). Strengths: One TOUGH vise. If you are a beginning fly tier like me, this would be a great first vise. Durable, has a cam lever, and because of it's size, it makes an excellent traveling vise (Get the pedestal version if you plan to travel a lot with it). As with all the Dyna-King Vises, you'll bend the hook before even slightly moving it. Weaknesses: No rotary capability, but since I am just a beginner, I really have no idea of the usefulness of it. Although, I have heard it speeds tying a bit. I seem to tie just fine without one. Customer Service: Haven't had to use it yet and I doubt I will ever have to. Similar Products Used: None...this is my first vise.

, from Jackson, WY, USA Summary: Great vise. . .not too fancy, not too cheap. Holds hooks well, clamps down well. . .what else do you need. Solid construction (clamp isn't bending like my old one). I'd highly recommend it if you're on a budget. Strengths: It's not expensive in comparison to others. Nice and strong/sturdy. A LOT better than my last vise. Weaknesses: Even though it's inexpensive in comparison. . .it's still pretty expensive for the amount of use it gets from me. Customer Service: Don't know Similar Products Used: Cheap Umpqua vise (well, it came with my Umpqua kit).

30 days a year Favorite City: Favorite State: Summary: I have this as my travel vise, and it's ideal for that. Not as fast as my Barracuda, but easy to pack, superb build quality, and versatile enough to meet any on-stream demand. For a travel vise, I'd say the choice is between this and the Renz. traveller, depending on which lockup system you prefer and whether you need true rotary or not. Strengths: Compact size, superb jaw lockup cam design, unparalleled workmanship, 360 degree rotation with adjustable rotary tension. Weaknesses: Not true rotary, if that's what you want. Customer Service: None needed yet. Similar Products Used: Regal.

30 days a year Favorite City: Favorite State: Summary: A definite buy if you are looking for a vise in this price range. The only advantages to a more expensive vise are adjustable head angles and rotary capability. I went to buy the Renzetti traveler, but bought this because its cam action hook attachment was far superior to the screw setup on the traveler (you had to move the screw to a different position for different size flies) Strengths: Excellent hook holding power, and good base weighting (which I need because I am heavy handed) Excellent fit and finish.
Clamp and collar setup for securing flies makes changing flies and hook sizes far easier than anything else I have tried. Weaknesses: No rotary capability (if you want that). The head has one fixed angle. Customer Service: Haven't needed any Similar Products Used: Thompson, Renzetti, Regal

20 days a year Body of Water: Farm ponds -- Favorite City: Oxford Favorite State: Ohio Summary: Don't buy it. Save a few extra dollars up and buy one with true 360 capablility. (If you're wondering why I didn't get a rensetti, I don't like the ~$100 modle's hook holding. That turn knob is lame... but so is the rotation on mine.) Strengths: Hook holding power; 360 rotation Weaknesses: not true rotary. Makes tying epoxy difficult. Customer Service: no experience Similar Products Used: Thompson, renzetti, regal
