Summary:

These tough boots are great for foot protection. To be honest, I bought these boots because they were the cheapest ones on sale in the store near my college 9 years ago ($70). I water-proofed them with wax and actually bought them about a half size too small, because I forgot to factor in the thickness of wool socks for winter hikes. Even so, these boots rock. I have had them now for 8 or 9 years (mine are brown, but otherwise are just like these). I used them for fire-fighting in Florida and my feet never got too hot, and were well protected. I have hiked up snowy mountains in the Olympics, and although the boots are really too short for deep snow, I was poor and my feet stayed warm enough with wool socks. Rocks pose no obstacle to these boots... I hardly noticed them. Never got blisters. I have never had to repair the boots. For a while I wore them all the time because they were so comfortable once worn in. So, I recommend these boots for Spring, Summer, and warm Fall, but get winter boots for snow and extensive rain. They are tough and good in rough terrain. Not the greatest ankle protection, but I never had problems. Easy to lace. Last as long as your feet stay the same size.

Customer Service:
If I did it again I would buy them a half size too large and wear wool socks year round.

Summary:
Love these boots! Wore them for the first time on a 20 kms hike, very comfy, very sturdy. Wore liners and wool socks: no blisters! My ankles were a bit sore at the end of the trek, since they're as stiff as downhill skiboot!
However, just got back from a 4-day interior backpaking trip to Killarney Provincial Park and the boots saved my life: they kept me dry, considering it rained the whole time; never slipped or lost my footing while climbing over rocks when portaging. Still, they are as stiff and water proof as they were although I went ankle deep in water and beaver doo! Just ""Nix Wax"" them with a silicone base gel and you'll be fine.
Paid about $300 CDN (on sale) for them.
