I took this pack to The Smokeys for a five day backpacking trip with scouts and it did great, it took a sixty pound load, mostly food, and held comfortably the hole way. Suspension great, size average, organization allowance maximal, and most of all good prize. Little small for my growing purposes and looking for larger pack for philmont.
I recommend it one hundred percent.

Customer Service

Rainfly tore and Kelty fixed it quick and neat.

I recently bought a Kelty Super Tioga after my Diamond Brand I had used for years gave up the ghost. The price was right and it was very easy to fit it to my torso. I have ued it along the Foothills Trail, Linville Gorge in Pisgah NF, the A.T. in GA and TN and along the John Bartram Trail for 1-3 day trips. If the trail is well-maintained the pack is great. A little extra brush and you will be fighting snags and pulls. Hard to balance if you use water bottles but not if you use a hydration system in the pocket provided inside the pack interior. Pack has a ton of room and you have to really work to not overpack! Overall it is a workhorse of a pack. If you are a little overweight and have "spare-tire" waist, then the belt will bind your hips and make walking harder. I switched back to the old-style kelty cam-lock buckle instead of the plastic buckle and I like this much better!

This is an outstanding external frame backpack. I used one for a few years before switching over to a Dana Astralplane. The Super Tioga has plently of space, lots of pockets for organization, and carries well. The hip-belt tightening system works very well and makes tightening a piece of cake. I used it on a week long trip and many shorter trips and it suited my purpose nicely. I have no complaints about the pack, the only reason I switched over to the Dana was that I prefer internal over external. This pack can also adjust to fit a wide range of torso lengths. If you are looking for a pack that is very versatile and that you won't grow out of this is your pack. Kelty has been around for a long time and makes high-quality backpacks.

Customer Service

A clip on the hipbelt broke, and i sent in for a replacement. They replaced it for free, but they sent me a defective belt and we had to send in for a 2nd replacement. I don't know if this was just a one time mistake, or if they have poor customer service.

this is a great external frame pack with no major drawbacks. i have had no problems with it on the treck through philmont scout ranch. This is a good backpoack regardless of your size because on the telescoping frame. This pack is great for any experience level and has a large "cargo" room. one word of caution, bigger is not always better as you tend to "accidently" fill the extra space with unneeded items making your pack heiver.

Good for an external frame pack, but I must say I now prefer internal frames for their comfort. This pack was very strong and I only had one minor problem with it. Some of the stiching came loose but it was easily repaired. I also never really got used to the hip belt, it never really fit me right. Excellent pack for its day and for the money. Still use it for a spare (i.e., for friends who don't have a decent pack).

I love this backpack! It is spacious, lightweight, very adjustable, easy to pack, and comfortable. I reccomend it for large/tall guys or people who pack a lot of gear. It adjusts quite admirably and doesn't create pressure-points. The pads are thick and comfortable. It is very easy to sinch up the waist belt, just grab em and pull them out in front of you. I used it on a fifty mile hike in Uwharrie NF with 50 lbs. of gear in it, and it was comfortable the whole way. A great pack!

I bought this pack after reading the reviews
here. Recently I took it on a 9 day back-packing
trip on the Florida Scenic Trail. I think that
the pack is very well designed, well adjustable,
tons of room, quite comfortable.

It is an exceptional bargain.

A great external frame pack with cavernous capacity. The frame and suspension system are very adjustable. The load lifters and sway adjuster straps let you alter the load just enough to keep you comfortable. Once fitted about 5-6 ounces can be pared off trimming excess webbing. Toss the long pins used to secure toggles holding the bag to the frame! They snag and go flying leaving you in the lurch with the bag flapping in the breze. I replaced them with regular lock rings. This pack is a great value with good quality, lots of storage areas and external strap on points. One really nice feature is the small access flap which openes into the rear of the upper compartment. It is great for stowing rain gear and a pack cover. The 2 mesh water bottle pockets are on the right hand side and are rather large. If you carry 2 full 1 liter+ bottles, it's hard to balance the load. Not all things have to be made of gore-tex and titanium to work really well and this pack like a porsche, is a product of evolution rather than revolution.

This has been a good pack for me. I have used in on many multi day trips through the eastern Sieras. It is still in good condition, and is organized very well. It fits comfortably durring long days and doesn't fall apart. A pretty good pack.
