I have the large version and find it to be perfect for anywhere from 1-4 night backpacking trip. Light weight (3.1lbs) and the panel opening makes it easy to get at all your items.

I purchased this product to use on a mountain bike trip for carrying gear, and I found that it is a very versatile pack! It has enough storage room inside for about 3-5 days of camping or hiking. Only drawbacks are the zippers bind sometimes when theyre pulled down with some quickness. Other than that, this pack is very solid! The inner aluminum frame conforms to the wearers back for maximum comfort.

Customer Service

Kelty is very good about getting you replacement parts if needed, and also very good about replacing packs that have been damaged, even if it might have been your fault=)

Good product, not the biggest pack ever, but good storage for the size and price. Fits great, I really like the shaped alu inserts and the way it conforms to my back. The clips on the straps broke fairly easily, they apear to be a contracted item, but are not very sturdy. The pack itself is tough as nails, I've had it for at least 4 years, and I use it nearly everyday(for biking because those little camelbacks dont cut it for larger journeys). Overall a good backpack, especially considering the price.

this pack is quite the upgrade from the schoolbag eastpak that i had been using. the small storage compartments are great for storing extra snacks and water bottles.

This pack has lasted through two summer long trips and several shorter back packing excursions. Shows no sign of wearing out anytime soon. Side pocket work great for separting dirty socks ect. Also has handy water bottle slot. Can carry sleeping bag will a little bit of improvising. A good pack for a light traveler

I'm not a day hiker, i'm a student and that was the lowest category they had. However, I have had my redwing going on five years now and it has held up to all the crap that I have put it through. I jam all kinds of stuff in there that dosn't fit or is all pointy and stinky, and my backpack still loves me. After five years however, the nylon (or whatever it's made from) is becoming frayed at the seams on th einterior and sometimes interferes with the zipper. The ""bombproof"" zippers are not and frequently require re-zipping because thay don't thread correctly. But I really have treated this backpack like crap and I'm sure it has seen a lot more use as a student's backpack than any hiker.

This is a good beginner's pack. It works well for day trips and light overnights. I do not like panel access and lots of pockets on my packs. This was my first internal and I wasn't sure what I wanted yet. I didn't like the way it carries an ice axe. The shaft of the axe attaches to an outside pocket and screws up the balance of the pack. If you are just getting into hiking/backpacking and like pockets and panel access, this is a good pack to get.

The Redwing is a great bag for anyone who is looking to get out for a couple of days at a time. kelty only reccommends it as a day pack, but I've used it for 2-3 days at a time and been fine. It's great for anything, all the pockets are roomy, and the zippers have always kept my gear dry. It's a great bag for the money.

I have had my Redwing Large for about four years now and I love it. I have taken it with me on a 4 day backpack trip in Colorado and it was great for me. Sure it might not be the largest pack in the world, but I like it because the size keeps me from loading it down with stuff I don't need. I just wish I would have had it with me recently so I could have used it as a suitcase for when I went to Washington, D.C. (wouldn't have had to wait two days for my luggage to make it home) I have it with me now and I am looking forward to using if for some long day hikes out at the Tallgrass National Park here in Kansas or just to see if I am still in backpacking shape by taking on the steep inclines of the Flint Hills. Who knows I might even use it for mountain bike trips.

This is a VERY good weekend pack - have the long version and it fits VERY comfortably (6'2" tall). The multiple integral pockets are a godsend after a military style ALICE pack. Would recommend to anyone for a 2-3 day trip.
