20 years on and it's still warm with pretty good loft. Don't seem able to make myself get rid of it.

I got the +5 model after it was discontinued,so it sat stuffed in a plastic bag for at least a year.I've shaken and beaten(very gently)but can't seem to regain original loft,or so I think. Why do manufacturers stuff thier bags for shipping and turn around and tell us not to store them this way? Other than that little qualm,It's actually treated me fairly well on summer climbs around 8000ft in the north cascades, although I have not tested the extreme parameters yet.

i really like this bag. I always use it outside a tent, and am fine with it.. usually hot actually. It is a little tight aroudn the feet, otherwise its a good choice!

I've used my bag, a JALAPENO 5, in all 4 seasons here in NM. I've always stayed warm, having slept in and outside of my tent. I like it! A little tight through the knees...

I've had the Jalapeno for 2 years, and found it to be a good 3 season bag. I've froze in it in the winter however, and also am finding that the neck baffle is starting to rip from being tightened all the time

I have had the kelty jalepeno 20 F for two years. The first time I tried it out was camping on Hermit Island in Maine. It got pretty cold at night and one night we had torrential rain. I was always cosy and warm in my bag. It's nicely roomy and quite comfortable. The can be drawn nice an tight without being uncomfortable.
I have used it mostly in cold weather and it stood up to the test all but one time. I went camping in February and I got sick. I had a really bad sleeping pad (never depend on someone else to bring your gear) so most of body was on the cold tent floor. I froze. The fact that I was sick contributed significantly to the failure of this bag.
Overall I highly reccomend this bag, I would suggest the 5 F bag for my fellow winter campers. Kelty's products are very reasonable when it comes to price. I just got their red cloud pack and so far so good.

I took this sleeping bag along with my
Kelty external backpack (Super Tioga) on a
9 day trip on the Florida Scenic Trail. My
bag was rated at 20 F

The lowest temperature I encountered was 43 F,
so I do not know how well it will do below that.
The bag was quite comfortable and the polyfill
material not only provides warmth but also seems
more comfortable.

This is my first "real" sleeping bag, so I do
not know how it will compare with other bags.

I fight forest and range fires all summer and in all types of conditions. The Kelty Jalapeno held up to the tough job of traveling around the west , laying in dirt and ash. No matter how long the shift was, I knew I would sleep great in my bag. Didn't see too cold of weather, but some nights in Northern Cal. got down there and I was comfortable. The mountains of Idaho at 7500' in late October were pretty chilly and again I was comfortable. This is a great bag for the buck.

This is a solid bag. If the biggest thing about a bag is a nice, comfortable night's sleep, then this bag will suffice-as long as you're not hiking in extreme temps. (Not Everest expedition ready) Good features for a middle line bag (did a good job of closing off the outside) Reasonable price for a middle of the line sleeping bag. The stuff sack sucked. It ripped within months. Rolling into the stuff sack could be a bit easier (thats probably why it ripped at the seams)

Customer Service

Had the stuff sack replaced. Called Kelty's customer line, and they referred me to EMS. EMS took care of the situation and mailed me the stuff sack within 2 weeks.
