This is the best petrol-stove I've ever used. Its simmering and power is awesome. Handling is easy, it's lightweight and small to pack. The downside is its fragility. Mine is broken twice!

I guided backpacking trips this summer and got to work with many different models and types of stoves that the clients brought with them. The Dragonfly, in my opinion, does not live up to its reputation or price. The boil time is significantly longer than the Whisperlite. The adjustability is the main draw here, but in my experience, raw power is more important. Backcountry gourmets will disagree with me, but I am not one. The whisperlite is still my stove of choice.

This is a great stove. It does all that it is supposed to do. Fuel economy is good and the stove is very reliable. The only thing that I have replaced is the fuel line filter two times. The fuel filter is easy to replace. I use this stove a lot. It is a little bulky but well worth it. I am very happy with this stove.

I bought this stove in anticipation for a trek at Philmont Scout Ranch. The stove gave me no problems during the break in period. We had originally planned to use 3 stoves for 11 people to speed cooking time. However, at Philmont, our ranger told us to bring one stove and cook in a 8-liter pot. They use Peak 1's at Philmont, so we brought the Dragonfly and a Peak 1. The Dragonfly consistently boiled, cooked, simmered, and transformed 6 liters of water and dried powder into delicious trail food. Even under the immense weight, we never had to break out the Peak 1. Not once, through 7 straight days of rain. I'd recommend this stove to anyone with group needs or anyone looking for a reliable stove.

I bought the DragonFly when it first came out in 98. At first I thought it was great as it simmered like a butane stove without the inherent problems of butane. Very quickly I noticed that it didn't boil quickly. I teach backpacking locally and often need to boil up to 3 quarts at once. After getting very frustrated too many times, I did a boil comaprison between the Primus 3266, MSR Whisperlite and the DragonFly. All things equal, the Primus boiled a quart of water in 3.5 minutes, the Whisperlite in 4.5 and the DragonFly in 7.5. Obviously very ticked off at this point, I called MSR who said to return it. I did and they informed me after testing it that the DragonFly has a problem with the flame adjuster tube carbonning up. They cleaned it, tested it, SOLD me a newly created tool that addresses the problem and shipped it all back to me. It worked for two pots of water and then wouldn't boil again. Just in case your wondering, I was using new Coleman fuel. Fortunately EMS would still take it back and I purchased a Primus Himalaya Multi-Fuel which I love. I have read reviews of other people who have had this problem. BEWARE!

Customer Service

To MSR's credit, the customer survice was decent. The fact they made me buy the repair tool to fix what appears to be an engineering flaw sucks!

This stove is great. Haven't used this a lot, as I have just gotten it this season. I used a Peak1 Xtreme before this, but got tired of buying canisters. I much prefer MSR's versatility, and stability. I haven't had this stove tip yet, and the Peak1 has tipped my din-din more than once. All in all, this is a great stove. As for it's cost, well, I paid $400 for a Dana Astraplane Overkill. I figure $100 for a guaranteed warm meal when ever I want it isn't too bad.

Customer Service

No reason to use them yet, but I've heard they are top of the line in customer service.

Although I am happy with burn times and packability I must say after only five field uses the pump assembly has broken. The plastic keeping the pump in place snapped during a regular pump up. Fortunately the by hold the pump assembly tight while pumping I was still able to use the stove. So I give this product a three. Would have been a five but for the breakage.

I've taken the DragonFly stove on several backpacking trips and it is by far the best stove I've used. It's reliable and it simmers quickly. It is relatively light and easy to pack. I used it last week in windy conditions at the breeze didn't bother it at all. I don't think the price is unreasonable considering the DragonFly's quality and reliability.

Great stove, it is loud but I say who cares. Nice stable design and boils water pretty quickly. It was pretty pricey but its been worth it...
