Yes it costs a bit more but myself and everyone here who has it weghed that before they bought it. Guess what! They bought it even though it was pricey! Why? Because it is a great stove! Yes, other stoves are cheaper but they aren't nearly adjustable and don't boil water (melt snow!) as fast! I don't know if anyone else does this but we usually race to see who can boil their water the fastest and I have never even had a close race! Always, always, always use the wind screen and base disc! This thing is not quiet either! Sounds like a jet airplane warming up for take-off!

I like this stove very much. It lets our term can cook some gread food on the trip! Steam fish, fire rice, no-mean... If you know how to cook and enjoy eating, this is the best stove for you! However, as Garfield said, the pump one of the problem. It broke in my first time to use it! And the broken part is the main-body so I can't just replace it. Luckily, the store get me a new pump. I don't know if all MSR pumps are easy to broke but I will suggest they inprove there structure, or use aluminun to make the pumps.

I've enjoyed backcountry cooking much more with my Dragonfly. Being able to simmer easily has been it's main advantage, but it will also fire up like blow tocrh when nessasary. It also seems to save fuel because of the highly adjustable flame. I am using much less fuel overall on my trips, and thus the weight of the fuel offsets the couple of extra ounes the Dragonfly weights over the MSR Whisperlight I used to use. I love this stove.

Customer Service

I've contacted M.S.R. with regards to my Whisperlight and found them to be helpfull and informative.Very good customer service.

Overall this is a great stove and I would recomend it to anyone. One of the best features about this stove is it's stability. The pot supports are much more stable than they appear to be and provide a great surface for worry free cooking. Of course, I also love the incredible simmer control, that the flame ajuster provides. One area of concern that I noticed after inspecting the stove, was how the pump assembly was made. Although I have'nt had any problems, I wish that MSR would have made the pump out of metal rather than plastic. Who knows, maybe it will last just as long. Other than that great stove and well worth the money

I got tired of trying to simmer my Whisperlite Internationale at low fuel bottle pressures when making pizza and brownies in my Outback Oven.

The Dragonfly simmers beautifully but is noticeably slower to boil than the Whisperlite. And at it's LOUDER THAN HELL! My hiking buddies love to give me crap every time I fire up my Dragonfly.

A bit pricey, but worth the money if you want the ultimate in control. If you're just eating freeze-dried meals or oatmeal, a Whisperlite will serve you well.

Customer Service

MSR rocks in its customer servicing skills! I called their hotline complaining of a lack of adjustability & full burn capability with my original Dragonfly. I was told that a few of these stoves were mysteriously locking up in the flame adjuster and if it weren't too much trouble, could I send it in for some R & D to be accompanied with a replacement?

MSR recognized a possible design problem didn't try to hide it, and did the right thing. Thanks MSR!

I haven't had a single problem since..

This stove is a disappointment. I bought this stove in order to be able to cook meals with it since it has simmer control. While the flame can be adjusted from low to high levels easily it will not simmer due to the configuration of the flame. The blow torch style of the burner concentrates all the heat at the center of your pot and does not spread it properly to allow even cooking. Produces poor pancakes.

Stove is also very loud. Forget conversations until after cooking is over, which is an eternity from the start of cooking to making after dinner coffee.

Spring loaded legs seem always to be opening up before you can get the stove packed. A little too expensive also, there are some very good stoves for less money.

I would recommend the Whisperlite over this MSR stove.
