I have only used this stove 3 times. Pros: Multi fuel, honest simmering capabilities, any altitude or temp, Stable base and pot support, Verrrry fuel efficient (comes with windscrenns) Cons: a bit heavy compared to my other stove (camping gaz), many parts (no problem yet), LOUD, does not fold to compactly. I am happy with this product. I am unsure about long term durability due to the many parts involved. Repair kits are made (which I carry) and it comes with a maintenance kit.

My dog ate my stuff sack before I ever got to use it. I e-mailed MSR to find out how to get a new one. They sent me two for FREE in less than a week. What more could I want.

I've had a DragonFly for about 2 years and it is a very reliable stove. It's light, easy to set up, fast boiling times, adjustable flame, multilple fuel. Water on the flame spreader will put it out, ie. heavy rain, pan boiling over. Never had a problem with the pump !

Very overrated. Loud, Heavy and not as reliable as you need it to be. Would not burn Gas in Peru. Had to walk 15 blocks to find white gas to make it burn properly. Don't spend the extra money wisper lite works just as well.

I have only used this stove on about 5 trips and so far so good. Flame adjuster is nice when you don't want it at max temp.
My only complaint is that the open space in the middle of the range is too wide to put a cup on if you only want a cup of hot water, always have to boil a whole pot!
So if mainly hike in pairs or groups this is a great stove, can really crank out the heat if you ned it. But if you're a solo hiker who usually only makes small meals with a small amount of water, then you amy need to look elsewhere.

I bought this stove after I had lost my Whisperlite on a trip in Australia (don't ask me how that happened), and bought it because of it's simmering capability, which I found was hard to get using the Whisperlite. Indeed, it simmers great, but other than that I found nothing but drawbacks on this stove.
First, it became clogged very easily when was on a climbing trip in Spain and I used auto gas when white gas was not available. Removing the clog was sometimes impossible using the shaker needle, and I had to use the needle from the maintenance kit, a cumbersome job when it's completely dark outside.
Second, after a recent climbing trip it was exposed to a rain shower and again it became clogged very easily, something I never encountered during the 5 years I've used the Whisperlite extensively. I had to clean the entire pump, fuel line and jet.
All in all, can it simmer? Yes. Is it reliable? No. Also, the design seems to me a little sensitive to mechanical failure, again in comparison to the robust design of the Whisperlite.
Although the noise can be significant, I did not take this into account when rating the Dragonfly in this review because I was aware of that before I bought the stove.
Bottom line: I would take the lack of simmering for granted, and buy the Whisperlite again...

I like the stove.
Don't like the aluminum wind shield. It's more of a nuisance than help!

It's noisy, but then again,I ain't in the kitchen, using my GE stove! No flame adjustment 'issues' really; I do live in Texas, afterall!(HOT!HOT!)
It does cook/heat-up the center of the pans. But then again, refer to the first sentence above! For general useage, the Dragonfly great! No mech/relaibility issues,as of yet.
The Whisperlite model is more quite.Yes. But I'm tough on gear,so I opted for the heavier Dragonfly. And I've used the "DRAGON" on seven campouts now. It roars, for sure--and it's a bit heavy...but nothing is perfect!

Yeah it's expensive,but I hear that it's a workhorse;That's what I need.

Most over-rated piece of junk. I bought my DragonFly about 3 years ago and have finally gotten so fed up that I quite using it.

TOO HEAVY - over 1 pound

TOO LOUD

There is a stiff metal tube that comes off the stove that I always worried would break.

Typical MSR fuel bottle configuration so you get flicked in the eye with white gas when you remove the pump.

I just made the swith to a Westwind. NO WHITE GAS, 6 ounces, boils water just as fast as the DragonFly. Costs about $30.

I own a Firefly which is the 20+ year ago predecessor to the DragonFly. Same crummy stove, different name.

Customer Service

I've list this little grey plastic piece off the pump assemble 8 times and customer service has replaced it all 8 times.

I Used this stove for the first time since I purchased it. It works great, sure it's a little noisy but nothing over powering. It is not much louder than a Colman Camping stove or lantern.

It starts up everytime just fine and I was able to boil water in 3 minutes. It also is not to bad on fuel consumption and it blew the hell out of my friends Peak 1 in cooking times and cooking capacity. I was able to cook twice as much as him in the same time frame he was cooking at.

All those complaints about noise, bulk, and everything else...

You must be beginers at this sport or do not know what it is that your doing. So continue to use you Peak 1 or others and I will continue to enjoy my dragonfly.

I know this has nothing to do w/ performance, but I love the sound my stove makes (like a jet engine). My bud had an MSR Whisperlite Internationale and we were heating about the same amount of water - I was eating my food while they were still waiting around eating and breathing bugs. As a side note: My bud didn't have a lid for his pot (Ill prepared as he was)

I was relunctant to buy this stove at first because of the high price but I think it is worth it. It easily primes, and I love the ease of adjusting the flame. It works great in 0 degree F temperatures and it is a lot quieter than comparible multifuel stoves. It sounds powerful but it doesn't give every creature in the forest a heart attack!!! I keep my pump in a tiny zip lock baggy (most people have stove trouble not because of the stove but because of impurities that get on the pump etc. etc.) and it seems to keep the stove extremely clean and it hasn't needed any maintence after dozens of cooking. Oh yeah, another bonus is the wide base for pots and it still compresses down and fits inside my 2 liter pot.

Customer Service

No experience.....none needed.
