This is the best stove I have had to date. I have used it from the day trip with the kids to ascending Aconcagua. With good fuel it burns just as I need it, with the fuel of Argentina it smoked and carbon built up along the stem which was easily cleaned using the repair kit (and a fingernail). The only drawback I have is that it doesn't fit the titanium pots that MSR makes and the locking washer slips off allowing the burner to slip inside the body (a royal pain to undo). I reccommend this stove to anyone for any purpose. Similar Products Used: Whisperlite and every colmen you can |

I really like this stove. It is the stove that is usually used for the bigger jobs when there are multiple stoves because of the amount of heat it can produce. I love the ability to simmer. Two negatives - If it goes out you have to wait for it to completely cool before relighting, which is a pain, and the parts seem complicated and don't "seem" to be very durable, even though I have not had any problems Similar Products Used: various coleman |

Works great. Very loud though. With the gas bottle and everything else it is hard to say how lightweight it is but if you need a lot of burning time this is the way to go. Similar Products Used: I have also used the whisperlite which is the cheap brother of the dragonlite. I think that it is a bit lighter but less stable when trying to cook. |

This is a great stove. It fires up every time without fail. Flame control ranges from a blow torch to a delicate simmer. Fuel efficient and relatively light and compact. Buy an Outback oven to use with it and you'll be cooking like the Emiril of the outdoors! The Dragonfly is a litle expensive but very much worth it. I purchased the previous version of this stove back in '85 & just replaced with the current model last month. I don't think this stove has more parts than other brands, it's that MSR provides you with replacements when you first buy it. Never had a problem with the plastic pump assembly. Just used my new one for a month long trip to Washington state & much prefered it to the older version. With regards to the sound, it is loud but I don't find it irritating. Besides, I think the sound makes it seem like your food is cooking faster. Customer Service MSR is my favorite company. Easy to get replacement parts & you can work on it yourself - a must if you are going to use something regular for 10+ years. Similar Products Used: None |

I don't know what all the fuss is about the noise. Either I am not experienced enough, or the other guys are too sensative (sorry guys) I actually liked the noise it makes. And as for having to raise your voice to talk? huh????? Not the case with mine! In other words, it is loud, but not that loud. This stove boils great, simmers better and is the greater then $2 Gortex! There is just no comparing it. I love it and would not trade it for all the gold in the world. Which unfortunaly is about how much it costs! Sorry MSR drop the price a tad for a perfect rating. But, I always say, you get what you pay for! Similar Products Used: International |

A great stove until you take it away from first world countires. Loved it for first month in Asia, then simmer grooves corroded (from keroseine and poor petrol, I imagine) and hated the thing for next six months cycling in Himalays. Usually needed to dismantle and clean it every couple of minutes - so lovely in Tibetan plateau, hungry, cold and tired. .MSR refused to change it for XKG, but did repair it saying it had never happened before. Met three other people in Pakistan and China with same problem with Dragonfly. Now hate the stove. Really... Customer Service MSR have not responded to my emails, nor taken serious simmer problem seriously Similar Products Used: None |

Every positive thing you've ever heard about the Dragonfly is true! Stop being foolish and get one! I brought water to a rolling boil in about 3 minutes at 6,000 Ft.! I've simmered rice without having to scrape burnt remains off my pot! It performs best with white gas but also drinks diesel, auto, and jet fuel. It has a self cleaning shaker jet and packs very compact. Unlike the whisperlite, you actually have complete control of the flame thanks to it's awesome flame adjuster control. This is simply the best backpacking stove on the market. Bar none. Customer Service At full blast, it can be quite loud but, man you'll come to love that powerful sound! I originally thought the MSR Dragonfly a bit overpriced, but I found, after several uses, that the quality more than made up for the price. You can go from a low simmer to a blow torch. Two cups of ice cold water will be boiling within two minutes - simply amazing. Have had not problems with it whatsoever - highly recommend it. |
